Thanks for the guide @davidad. I agree that in order to build influence on Steemit, one should invest more into the community, both by creating quality content and powering up your account. And Steemit does reward it's members if the content is good and people show their commitment to the community. I believe I have a long way to go, but I will get there eventually.
