When will Nigeria stop happening to young people? Yesterday, I got news that my Facebook friend, Kingsley, was gunned down by armed robbers in Onitsha after attending a wedding. He was my junior at FGC Nise and was set to marry his heartthrob next month.

Kingsley was doing well for himself. He owned a Pharmacy and was a member of our Telegram group. Last year, he had gotten a Masters admission for September which he deferred to this year. But alas! Nigeria happened to him.

I woke up this morning to hear the story of a female medical colleague, Dr. Chinelo Megafu, who was gunned down in the Abuja-Kaduna train attack. News was that she was due to leave the country on Friday. But Nigeria happened to her.

This is beyond heartbreaking. A country that does not value the lives of its citizens enough to keep them safe, has failed. If you are a parent and cannot keep your children safe, you have failed as a parent and those children should be taken from you.

It was anger after the #Lekkimassacre that made me start CareerEdu to help young Nigerians with FREE relocation information and guidance. I am glad that last year we were able to help over 400 young Nigerians relocate to the UK 🇬🇧 where they can live their dreams without fearing for their lives. This year, we will do more.

If you are a young person in Nigeria, do your best to stay safe. The country and its leaders do not care if you are dead or alive. Do your best to keep your head above the water.

We must keep fighting until liberation comes.

May the souls of Kingsley, Chinelo and those of dead young Nigerians rest in the Lord. Amen. 🙏💔
