“Be a gift to the world. And a blessing to those who are in need. Outreach Activity to Boystown Orphanage”

Hi steemians friends and buddies. I’d like to channel with you some of the life altering stories we have encountered at the Boystown Orphanage. This stories have touch several souls particularly the volunteers who have interact with the kids and children of Boystown. Kindly find your comfortable spot and journey with us as we bespeak with several young individuals who are residing in the orphanage.

Boystown Orphanage is one of several shelters for children who are abandoned, neglected, rejected, and abused by parents, siblings, relatives and guardians. This shelter house 22 children with the age ranging 8 to 19 years old. They also cater disable or mentality challenge kids.

Boystown Orphanage is 45 minutes away from the city. It is strategically located in an outskirt area to protect children from harms doing of their relatives, parents, members of the family or guardians. At the same time prevent children from escaping and returning from their old vices and petty crimes.

With the growing numbers being referred and relocated at the said shelters, its capacity to accommodate their basic needs become challenging and difficult to the shelter personnel and house parents. The shelter is operated by the local government but the allocation of budget is barely enough to feed and sustain the needs of the kids. The social worker of the said shelter is a good friend of mine wish to seek aid and assistance.

After the short meeting with the social worker of the said shelter, the group of volunteers decided to sort all possible resources they can come up with and meet the needs of the children of the said shelter. After several days of tireless finding of means and ways to support our goal we have finally completed it. And on the following days, the group of volunteers set the simple gifts and items that they will be sharing to the children of Boystown orphanage.

The group traveled from one vehicle to another. Until they reach the said shelter. The shelter is a 5 minutes’ walk from the main road. We were greeted by cheerful children who lead us to the shelters function room where we meet the house parents, other personnel of the shelter and the rest of the children. Each individual in the said shelter are excited and happy to see people other than themselves. The head of the shelter can’t contain her gratefulness for visiting their place.

We started our program with a short prayer. Then we started to facilitate an activity named as getting to know. Each volunteers where properly distributed in the small group number of children. Each small group children are sharing their names, age, school grade, their dreams, their ambition and their hero. One child touch the heart of the volunteer where he said “My name is andoy, I’m 10 years old, grade 3, my dream is to finish school so I can help my family, I want to give them food to eat even once a day, my ambition is to become a police so I can protect children who are abandoned, left behind by their family and being hurt by bad people, and my hero is cardo because cardo help people and he catch bad guys who hurt children and their families.

The activity gave the volunteers a glimpse of the life of the children. One child made one volunteer cried, and the child said “my name is bonbon, I am 9 years old, my dream is to finish school and land a good job so my parents won’t sell and I can play with my siblings, my ambition in life is to become a teacher so I can teach children like me who wish to go to school, I want to teach also my siblings who are still young, and my hero is superman, because I can use my super power to save children from being sold to bad people that teach children from stealing money and items from other people. I want to use my power to save children from being beaten by bad people, I want to save children who are starving for many days and sleeping in the streets. I want to use my power to bring good children here in this shelter from the hands of evil people. Each children have taught the volunteers how lucky they are and how bless their life is. Each children open the eyes of the volunteers how cruel their life has been. It was the volunteers turned to share and speak about themselves.

It was a shift of energy vibes in the function room for the children were inspired from their big bro and sis (kuya & ate). The volunteers shared their life struggles, their life goals, their achievements, and encourage the children to continue studying and continue praying from above. After the said activity the volunteers started sharing a simple meal to the children and their response are priceless. The children indulge themselves and filled their happy tummy. After the sharing of meal the volunteers started distributing the hygiene kits, together with the educational kits and the much needed slippers or flip flops.

The children were so happy receiving their gifts. One child couldn’t contain himself and hug the volunteer and said “thank you for this gift, now I can continue my study, I can write my assignment well, I can draw my favorite toy and anything I can draw, and thank you for the slippers/flip flops I won’t be wounded anymore from walking from the shelter to school, now I can change my old slippers/flip flops, thank you so much for this. I am truly happy you came to visit us and gave us this gifts. I promise to finish my school.”

The slippers or flip flops plays a vital role in the lives of the children for it is there primary vehicle heading to school from the shelter. It boost their confidence, their motivation and their desire to finishing their study.

Each child receive a simple gift but made a great impact to their lives. The simple gift gave them more hope to achieve their dreams. The humble gift empowered their spirit and their hearts to continue striving until their goals are within reach. The volunteers are happy, fulfilled and felt proud of themselves to be able to inspire children, guide them at the right path and lead them to a better future.

As the day finally end, the group of volunteers bid their farewell to the children. They felt a heavy feeling in their heart
