The accusers of Stephen could not stand the wisdom of God in Him. The word of God Stephen proclaimed, like a two-edged sword, cut to their hearts, but they didn't surrender to the dealing of the Holy Spirit, hence the word of God didn't bring forth fruits in them. This is the current plight of many people today - believers and unbelievers. This is why, despite the many churches scattered everywhere, there is little fruition because we have closed off our hearts to the Holy Spirit.
