Among the listed languages in your country, how many are you familiar with?

Normally, i am the kind of person that likes to relate with people and deep down i have so much desire of learning different languages but learning them all can not be possible. Among all these languages i wish to learn atleast one-ten of them but so far so good, i am only familiar with six different languages in my country that is;

  • Igbo - which is the native language of my tribe,
  • Hausa - which i learnt from the part of the country i reside
  • Yoruba - which i learnt from my close friends
  • English - which is the legalized language in my country
  • Pidgin English - which is dominant too among people in rural areas.

The advantages of speaking more than a language are just too many and I'll be talking about few notable ones. The Hausas will sell goods to you at cheaper rate when they observe you can speak their language very fluently and so it is with so many other tribes too. Learning another language will ease the flow of information between people of different tribe. Learning and knowing how to speak another language could bring and create more opportunity like business, employment, travels etc.

Learning another language too increases knowledge of ones self especially in academics; take for example, carrying out a research and getting related journals written in another language. People tends to like you more when you can speak their language and so learning new language can boost friendship.

Are you willing to teach your children these languages? Yes/No. State your reason.

When i was still a kid, i was curious about learning more languages aside fry native language and luckily for me i got familiar with some. I am glad and feel good most times knowing the fact that i can speak multiple languages because it makes me relate easily with people especially in the geographical location where I reside.
I will definitely want my children to learn more languages if they so wish too. I would love my children to have this good feeling i am having now knowing the fact that i can speak six different languages fluently. It will be of great benefit to them and i know they will be thankful for that.

Conclusion

There are about 7000 languages world wide and over 500 languages in my country Nigeria, which makes it is almost impossible to learn even 1% of them but learning more than just one is possible and is of great advantage and i want to urge us all to try and learn atleast one additional language.
Thanks you for reading through
