Affirming a New Self
Affirming a New Self
As you feel better about yourself, and your low self-worth has begun to be reshaped, you may feel yourself looking more and more toward the future, toward possibilities. Now is the time to use affirmations to inspire new ideas and to expand what we believe is possible for us.
Start with a positive, supportive statement about yourself or your life that you would like to make true. Here are some examples to get you started:
“I love and accept myself.”
“I connect to the wisdom of my soul. I am directed toward my highest good.”
“I have wonderful, fulfilling relationships. I give and receive great love and respect.”
“I am strong, wise, and beautiful.”
“I am love.”
“I have the power to create the life I desire most.”
“I am in a job I love. I use my talents and have every opportunity to grow.”
“I have a unique gift to give to the world. I now courageously express myself.”
“I am worthy of love and respect.”
“I surround myself with people who support me. I also support everyone in my life.”
But there are several things to keep in mind to make sure we get the most from our affirmations. First, remember, the purpose of affirmations is to speak to and direct the subconscious mind. This means our affirmations must be using the language of the subconscious mind:
- Make sure your affirmations are in the present tense. The subconscious does not perceive time the same way the conscious mind does, it only understands time as now.
- The subconscious mind is absolutely literal, so if you affirm “I want” you are reinforcing the state of wanting and repels receiving. Using “I will” likewise gives our subconscious the message.
