Growing or growth tends to be seen by most as a gradual process that involve incremental steps. Although that can be true to growing up where we have to crawl before walking, have to walk before riding a bicycle, etc; once we are past that stage, we can change our perception of how growth really happens.
Most clients that I have encountered in my coaching practice, they come with the concept that, if they could increase they income from US$50,000 a year to US$100,00, they would see themselves as a success. My question to them tends to be, why only double? Why don’t you aim at turning your annual income into your monthly income?
Then there is a silent as they consider and I can tell that most don’t believe it, and that is where the problem is - BELIEF
For the past five years I have been reading a little magic books You2 written by Price Pritchet. It has brought so much good to my life. Take a look at what Pritchett says:
Most people operate with a mindset that assumes success comes one step at a time.
The unspoken but popular notion is that we must move systematically from our present level of achievement to the next.
Then, the thinking goes, from that stage we can begin working toward graduating to still the next higher level in the sequence. Gradual progress.
This is an unfortunate misconception, and it’s clearly reflected in the way people function.
They go about, day to day, striving to make incremental gains in their performance. That’s pretty routine. That’s the pathway of conventional growth.
Now isn’t that the truth!
Most people set goals that they know they can achieve…
They go for the 5% raise, selling 10% more than they did the previous year, or the base model of the car they want instead of the fully-loaded version.
An unconventional way to look at growth
Here’s what comes next in this marvelous little book:
But your life simply does not always have to operate that way.
Advancing at a measured pace—step by step from where you are to a little bit better—ordinarily feels easier, more natural, and even safer.
But in certain areas of your life you can just as easily think in terms of skipping levels. You can move from your present level of achievement to one that is several stages higher—directly.
Why most people don’t make big jumps
Most people don’t make quantum leaps because they never plan it. They plan to do what Pritchett described—improve gradually. However, instead of being content with gradual improvement, go for a breakthrough. What would that be for you? Think about it and then decide. You do not have to know how, you just have to want it.
By not accepting your current circumstances, and deciding to look far beyond where you are, you are setting a new course of causation.
Pritchett says:
Quantum leaps won’t happen if you’re living life with a lukewarm heart.
Passion is a very important part of the process. It fires the soul and fills the spirit, energizing your heart and mind for the quantum leap to a higher plane of performance. Passion also keeps you going when you’re hit with problems and uncertainty.
But passion itself must be fueled, and you feed that flame with visions of a dream that is dramatic. The emotional intensity inside must burn hot enough to protect you against the chilling effects of doubt, uncertainty, criticism and failure. Only deep desire can generate such heat.
Be illogical
In other words, you’ve got to give yourself permission to pursue what you want most…So pick the greatest goal you can think of. The thing at the top of the mountain that you’ve dreamed of. The thing that gets or keeps you wound up, and then get a card and write: I’m so happy and grateful now that…
Then, fill in the details of your remarkable goal in the present tense, as if you’ve already got it. You see, when you write the details of your goal on the card, even if you don’t believe you can achieve it, gradually your mind starts creating a picture, eventually you start romancing the ideal and eventually a decision is made in your conscious mind. And if you can see it in your mind, you can share it with me. And you couldn’t give it to me if you didn’t have it.
This is an absolute law
Every time you think about your image with joy and gratitude, you get emotionally involved with the idea. And you plant it in your heart of hearts, which is the subconscious mind. That’s the part of your mind the early Greeks referred to as the heart.
That’s critical because you don’t become what you think about in your conscious mind. It’s as Solomon said, “As a person thinketh in their heart, so are they.” When you are involved with an image intellectually and emotionally, by law, it’s only a matter of time before it moves into form. It’s like planting a carrot seed in the ground. If you fertilize the ground and keep it free of weeds, you know that carrot is going to grow in a given period of time.
How to carry goal card
Now, I will let you in on a secret. I did not believe it would happen, but do you know what I found? If you write what you want on the card, and keep reading it and touching it, you are going to start to believe it.
To your success,
