Turning Nothing Into Something # 1: The Tin Can (Original Blog +Poem)
Then I share these ideas and creative interpretations with you all in hopes to equip you with some knowledge and tactics on how to overcome any stoppage of progress. Here is a quick example of me writing something about a tin can, and aiming to get a message out of it. I will attempt both a haiku and a free verse poem aiming for the same topic utilizing tin can as one of the main focuses or focal points.
They avoided his hands, so...
He begged with tin cans
He lost everyone and everything but the clothes and shoes he wore
He lost the will and desire to truly live but his human instincts stripped away his pride
To survive on a minimalistic basis, he begged without fail, expecting nothing
He stretched out his hand and made eye contact with all who passed by
Usually, only the children took pity and dropped pennies every now and then
He was shunned and outcasted by adults for his appearance and smell
And was sometimes bullied by groups of teens leaving high-school
While walking through the inner city, he passed through a narrow alley
He came across a homeless man napping on a torn and tattered mattress and saw it
Next to the sleeping man's head was an old tin can
Which had dried remnants of sliced pineapples on the rim
But stuffed inside was a band of cash and coins
He quickly grabbed the tin can and bolted
The clinking of the coins in the can , plus
His hurried footsteps, awoke the man sleeping and he took chase
The thief cared not for the consequences until he tripped
Tumbling forward, scraping his forearms and right cheek on the pavement
The man caught up to him swinging a broken off steel metal pipe
Which he had secured always by his side when he slept
He saw only red, knowing how cold this world can be
He took justice into his own hands, dealing brutal blows
Until the other man stopped screaming and reacting...
The thief died clutching onto the tin can
And the man came to retrieve his money
The dead man's cold grip had his muscled fingers tightly wrapped around
So the man emptied the tin can jerking and shaking the stiff arm
And stuffed the money into his pockets, leaving the body
The thief's still eyes were drained of life
He was found still clutching onto the tin can
His body now hollowed out the same with no soul
And he was picked up two days later without any investigation
Just another casualty of hard city street life...
