GACEBOOK:testing out a new feature that might make it harder for people to see posts from publisher's they follow on Facebook - unless the publishers pay up.

In some countries, Facebook is testing the new model which takes business and publisher content out of a user's regular News Feed and places it into the new Explore Feed.

The Explore Feed helps users discover content from pages they don't follow, showing posts Facebook thinks users might like based on their previous 'likes' and what's trending.

EXPLORE FEED

The new Facebook feed, known as Explore, offers content from pages that its users have not liked or followed - meaning it looks less familiar than the main feed.

But some countries, Facebook is testing the new model which takes business and publisher content out of a user's regular News Feed and places it into the new Explore Feed

The new tab is now available to users on mobile and desktop devices.

On desktop the 'Explore feed' is on the left-hand sidebar under the 'See more' section.

On the Android app it can be found via the 'More' menu. The option 'Explore feed' then appears in a list.

iOS users can access the feed by tapping the hamburger button, which is listed under the 'Explore' menu.

The move could generate more revenue for Facebook - in Slovakia, where tests are taking place, organic reach for 60 of Slovakia's biggest media publishers fell by two-thirds after Facebook tested the new model.

Filip Struharik, editor and social media manager at Dennik N, wrote a Medium blog post about the effects of Facebook's new model.

A Facebook spokesperson told Struharik that regional rests are currently taking place, but he did not specify when they will end.

The tests, currently underway in Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Bolivia, Guatemala and Cambodia, saw all posts by Facebook Pages moved from the main News feed to the Explore Feed.

This means users in those countries only see posts from their friends and family in their News Feed.

This is leading to drops in organic reach for publisher's and businesses.

In response to the reports, Facebook spokesperson told Mashable:

'With all of the possible stories in each person's feed, we always work to connect people with the posts they find most meaningful.
