Do we have 'Elephants in the room' on Steemit?

Perhaps not. I have, so far, seen Steemians to be quite alert and open in discussing the issues that crop up from time to time on Steemit. As any vibrant community does, Steemit too, teems with some disagreements and favoritism to a minor extent. However, I have not seen Steemians deliberately ignoring something and keeping quiet about it.

Still, with the fast growing community, with thousands of new users getting added and the number of posts multiplying, it does not hurt to take a look and examine if there could be some 'Mouse' issues that could grow into 'Elephants' and confront us.

It is a normal human tendency to try and ignore something that does not bother us immediately. As long as the elephant grazes quietly nearby, as in the picture above, most of us would be content to let it be and hope that it walks away. However, as I experienced it in Dinokeng in South Africa in 2015, the peaceful elephant just may turn and walk on the path that you are on - in a collision course!! The GIF below shows that very elephant in the picture above, which I had photographed a few moments before shooting this video....

I am too much of a newcomer to comment on this fantastic community. In my limited time on Steemit, I have seen many senior Steemians like @stellabelle, @lukestokes, @gavvet, @krnel and @barrydutton speak up about Steemit issues, protocols of posting and votes as well as morality and conscience, original content etc. in general. I have also seen great efforts by @donkeypong, @dragonslayer109 and @jrcornel in orienting entire communities such as AfricaUnited to make their interaction on Steemit more effective. (I apologize for missing out any names of other great Steemians as I am mentioning only the examples of blogs I have been able to read in my short time here so far). Though I am new and nowhere as knowledgeable as these great Steemians, I do want to contribute to the success of Steemit since I am a believer in Steemit as a platform and community. As I think of my personal experience, mistakes and current developments on Steemit, I feel that perhaps there are many minor issues that the community needs to closely watch.

Following standard steps in dealing with Elephants in the room may have to be applied before the 'Mouse' issues turn into 'Elephants in the room':

  • NAME IT โ€“ Identification of the issue and speaking about it in a free manner is essential
  • GET IDEAS FROM TEAM MEMBERS - A collective dialogue, focus group discussion etc. bring up best ideas for solutions
  • GET AGREEMENT ON THE BEST SOLUTION - Best solution needs to be defined by the task team based on defined parameters
  • GET BUY-IN from ALL - Majority of the team members need to agree for the action to be effective
  • STEP FORWARD TOGETHER to take meaningful action

I believe that 'rise of comment bots', 'vote for vote and follow for follow culture', 'vote for money' as well as 'only self upvote' are some of the Mouse issues that have potential of becoming 'Elephants in the room' in future, that go against the very grain of Steemit

Do you agree? Would you like to name any more Elephants?

Note: I am not claiming to be a totally innocent member who has not created any nuisance. While I have not created any of the above mentioned issues (other than using a service such as randowhale initially), I have certainly been a little overzealous in promoting my own posts. Though my interaction was sincere with other authors, I, blinded by the desire to get more attention, invited everyone to visit my blogs at the end of each comment, rendering useless my sincere effort to read and provide meaningful feedback. Perhaps that sort of issue is to be named an Elephant in the room too - however, Senior Steemians are always kind enough to provide candid feedback and focus on getting that issue corrected. Therefore, I have not named it but feel free to Name it if you feel strongly about it.

Nice post.

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by vm2904 from the Minnow Support Project. It's a witness project run by aggroed, ausbitbank, teamsteem, theprophet0, and someguy123. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows and creating a social network. Please find us in the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network (PALnet) Discord Channel. It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.

If you like what we're doing please upvote this comment so we can continue to build the community account that's supporting all members.

you're on the right track here. People forget that Steemit is bootstrapped. This is an evolving experiment, and we, the users are the lab rats. If you see a solution, then it's for you to put your mind to it, then get others on board. It's a different paradigm here than on any other network....we have to change things, and communicate why the change is necessary for the continuation of the platform.

@stellabelle - Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I am trying to read up about the underlying blockchain technology of Steemit and what the creators intended, whenever I get some free time. It is a great medium and like any good tool, it's effectiveness will depend on the users. Just like fire and internet, there is a good way and a bad way. I hope the good way wins and this great platform does not get wrecked. I will definitely do my best to spread word on the good way to use Steemit

you might try your reading here...it's the inventor of this platform: https://bytemaster.github.io/

There are so many elephants in this room, you have to be careful not to be stomped on! You've done well quickly on Steemit and should be proud!

Well - what is life without a risk of getting stomped on. LOL
Thank you for your kind words. I am proud to be a Steemian. If senior steemians like you think I have made progress here, I feel even more proud.

Upvoted and RESTEEMED :)

Great post friend.upvote.greets

You are doing great! Love the visuals and straight forward point here and obviously the comparison

Thank you. Was wondering if my musing were a good thing or a bit unwanted to be very frank. Your appreciation makes me feel that I am doing the right thing in sharing my thoughts.
