Microsoft founder Bill Gates says to Reddit during a "Ask me anything" session (AMA) that he is conservative about digital currencies. He said in his article that the main feature of digital currencies is not disclosure of identity is not good, because the government must monitor money laundering, tax evasion and financing of terrorism. Of course, there is also a problem with illicit drugs. Gates also said:
"At present, digital currencies are being used to buy fentanyl and other drugs, so this extraordinary technology has caused deaths fairly directly. I think the speculative wave of currency and currency support operations is a big risk for those who invest in the long term "
Gates's remarks were highly criticized by the panelists. While others advised Gates to reconsider the white paper, and many others criticized him for trying to use his social status to influence the digital currency market in a negative way. But while Gates is still skeptical about digital currencies, his company Microsoft has continued to build interest in the underlying plucheen technology. Over the past year, Microsoft has been involved in many business initiatives related to the technology of plucin.

On the other hand, in 2015, Bill Gates's approach was more optimistic about digital currencies. In an interview with Eric Schatzker on the Bloomberg TV's Smart Street, Gates said:

"The currency of the Betquin is better than the currency in terms of that it should not be physically present in the place, and of course it can be uncomfortable for large transfers"

But he did not expect digital currencies to become a payment system in the future.
