GRATITUDE: A small thing that makes a huge difference!
Gratitude is the quality of being thankful and showing appreciation for what you have in life or when someone does something for you without expecting anything in return.

During the one year period between completing my college and getting a job, I had plenty of time to do anything I wanted. In this period I ended up reading atleast 50 books out of which atleast tens of them were related to self-help.
One thing that I noticed was common in most of them was the term gratitude. Almost every self help author touches upon this thing called gratitude in his books. Why?
It is said that gratitude is a way in which we communicate with the universe conveying that we are happy with what the universe has provided us with and it in turn multiplies the thing you're grateful for in your life.
For eg. When we are grateful every day for the good life we have, life tends to make our life even better. When one is being the complete opposite and curses throughout his life saying life is unfair, life showers him with more unpleasantness.
You must have noticed that people who always keep complaining never have things go good for them. They or their family always seem to be stuck in some sort of problems.
There are so many small things in life which we take for granted but it's only when we end up in some catastrophe that we tend to observe these small things and start realising the importance of them.
Take for example a small dust particle. When it enters your eye, you are endlessly in pain for a whole day, not being able to see, eyes watering infinitely. That's when you understand that even a small particle of dust can do you so much harm and you're grateful that you have been gifted with amazing eyes that operate normally and see things without having to go though pain everyday.
During these times of lockdown, I'm able to slowdown and recognize the things that I have never stopped to think about earlier.
Here are ten things that I'm grateful for in my life today:
- For having a roof over my head that protects me from the cold and heavy rainfall that has been happening in our place from the past two weeks.
- For having to never sleep without food in my stomach.
- For having both my parents and a loving brother with me without whom life would be unimaginable.
- For having understanding friends who have the best intentions for me and I can count on them.
- For having not lost my job to this pandemic.
- For all the support from friends and family encouraging me to follow my passion.
- For being born in this amazing country filled with rich experiences, India.
- For having a fully functioning and healthy mind and body that supports all the activities and has never been a barrier.
- For being on this great platform and being able to make connections with wonderful people spread around the world.
- Finally, I'm really grateful for being blessed with this beautiful life.
There are tens of hundreds of things that I'm really grateful for and these are some of the smallest everyday things that most of us take for granted and we only know their value when it's gone.
I've been reading this book titled "You are a Badass - How to Stop Doubting your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life" by Jen Sincero and that's where the thought of writing about gratitude came into my mind.
Jen uses a language that makes you think she's just like one of us and you can relate with the things she says. It's a fun read. Since I've already read a lot of self help books, the things that she says are already familiar to me but I still felt like reading the book. I would recommend it to someone who would love to have a simplified version of all those tens of hundreds of self help books combined into one.
Thanks for tuning into my blog. Hope you found a takeaway or two. I would love to know what are some of the things that you are grateful for in your life. Comment down below.
