I HAVE BEEN THINKING LATELY
I have been thinking of you lately.
I have been opening old memories
And checking if some still hurt
As much as they used to.
I have been avoiding you lately
But memories of you keep
Like botanical names on dried petals.
We had a beautiful thing going.
I called you smallie,
You called me desire.
It is those little stupid things
That stick like cobwebs
To the dark dusty parts of my brain.
I have been thinking of you
And that is never a good thing.
I thought our kisses
Would scorch the earth
And the heat we made would
Heal the world but I was wrong.
Each time I turn a page, there you are,
Silent, tears cold on your lips,
Quiver shaking your limbs,
Fear flickering in your voice
But it is a memory of a thing.
I have been thinking of you.
You know you never really move on
From these things; love.
You never really wash the pain off.
Something always clings
And some days those tiny twitches
They become groans and shivers.
I have been smoking lately
And drinking too.
I have been thinking in between
That you came too late and
Left too soon.
