ALPACA EVERYWHERE!
Alpaca everywhere!
At first, when I got to Peru, I was so surprised about the fact that they do eat alpaca. Mostly they serve to tourist but some locals also love it and eat this type of meat occasionally in a fancier restaurant. In Cusco, especially, I can find alpaca on the menu almost everywhere among some other alpaca products like, clothing.
Alpaca kisses
As mentioned, not just alpaca as for food but there are some other product types offered. A lot of alpaca clothing stores in Cusco and some locals also leash alpacas and walk them around to take photos with tourists for some money. I met a lot them at one of the farms in Ollantaytambo. They are super duper cute!
Alpaca at Nuna Raymi
The last time I ate alpaca was also when I was in Cusco. I went with another Asian friend who's never before tried alpaca after 2 months in Peru. I was surprised but here we go, Nuna Raymi. The place was recommended by the owner of the hostel that we were staying at to go for some delicious alpaca.
We got this weird looking appetizer made with some corn nuts, mashed potatoes, and topped with cacao powder... Interesting, isn't it?
For the main dish, of course, alpaca. I got alpaca steak decorated beautifully with some house special sauce. When eating at a bit more fancy place like this, you can actually tell the difference between alpaca and other types of meat. It's sweet and almost melt in your mouth, literally.
For the drink, my favorite Peruvian drink ever, Chicha Morada, purple corn drink mixed with some other juices.

It's strange that most of the locals don't eat alpaca. Suddenly because many raise them! They are so beautiful. Well, from what you see on the video and in the photos. Anyway, the pictures of the meals were great. The meat looks succulent and the chicha morada looks delicious too! You must be missing Peruvian cuisine.
I have never been to South America. The cuisine looks very different from my country, I'd like to try it one day. :)
