Asifa, a sweet, jovial and innocent eight year old Bakerwal girl, was a regular visitor to Rasana where she used to play with the local children as she was friendly with some of them.

Her home was just two kilometers from the village and she came everyday to graze the horses and take them to a water body for quenching their thirst. She was familiar with many children and would often mix up with them.

Mohammad Kalu, a nomad who lives nearby said a day after the girl went missing, her father Mohammad Yousuf came looking for her.

“He told me that he had sent Asifa with horses but she had not returned,” Kalu said. “We searched for her in the village and also inquired from the villagers and Sanji Ram about our missing daughter but we didn’t get any clue”.

Kalu said he suggested to Yousuf that he should go to Hira Nagar police station and lodge a complaint.

“With a fair complexion, Asifa was the most beautiful girl among all the nomadic children and also very charming,” Kalu said. “How can someone commit such an inhuman and barbaric act with such an innocent girl and that too a minor?”
