Studio UPDATE #29 - painting in the living room
I used to only do studio updates here on steemit, before I started making GIFS. The world of crypto has somewhat distracted me from my original goal in life which was to get an art gallery to represent me and show and sell my work.
In the last couple weeks I have not been too busy in the studio, which is my and my roomate's @wavyid, living room.
I have some art up in a bar in Chicago and I need to retrieve it so that I can photograph the works and then begin making my new website so that I can show it to a gallery.
I entered a psychological state of disillusionment on Thursday night, realizing that I have lost touch with my original goal in life working on my fine art career. This has happened many times in my life. I get distracted. I am some what of a free spirit though, so I have to try to not get bummed out when I fail to finish certain projects that I am working on, as I can always return to them at a future time.
That is the south side of my living room floor.
I want to make some kind of of sculptural shapes coming out of the canvas so I cut a giant circle out of one painting, to stick on another. I want to raise the circle about 3 inches above the canvas behind it. But I want the hovering circle to be totally flat, which is hard to do. I might need to find and cut a piece of wood to brace it.
I cut out a bunch of canvas shapes and wood glued them to the surface of the newest painting I was working on. This is an interesting idea for me, because usually, when the raw canvas is covered up, there is no turning back. Well, why not just ADD more raw canvas!
I work abstractly because I think it requires more skill. Its much harder to make an abstract painting GOOD than it is to make a figurative painting good. A lot of abstract work that I see looks boring. Hell, a lot of art in general is boring. I want to change this.
I let the glue dry and I covered the entire painting in masking tape, using up the whole roll. I then cut out a shape to mask the painting under the tape, before I mixed up a bunch of black oil paint to surround the shape with.
I think it turned out totally awesome. Its like picasso Superflat.

Awesome I much prefer abstract art too. I can look at pictures if I want to look at something real, I want to see something I've never seen or even imagined seeing before.
Excelente!!
