Wednesday Walk- Autumn is Near

in #wednesdaywalk5 years ago

I can feel, see and hear that autumn is near. After being stuck in the house for so long it felt great to take a long drive and I ended up at the park. The walk felt great too.

The nights have been cool and the mornings have been cold, so that tells me that autumn is near. What I saw on my walk confirmed that autumn is creeping in. I found this maple leaf on the ground and it is beginning to change colors.

I found this old oak tree and acorns were on the ground, and most of them were brown. People that harvest acorns to grow oak trees do so in autumn. They pick the acorns that are beginning to change from green to brown. If that is your wish, you are too late.

However, the ducks, pigeons, squirrels, deer, mice and other animals will be happy since they feed on acorns.

Walking further I came across a holly bush full of green berries that will be turning red real soon. Too soon for me.

Even the squirrels are turning colors, from gray to a brown and orange. Well, that is what first came to my mind when I saw this squirrel. After doing some research I found out that this one is an Eastern Fox Squirrel. This was a first for me. We have gray squirrels and the eastern fox squirrel is larger, has brown around the face, an orange-brown belly, and the tail is longer and bushier with the colors of a fox tail; hence its name.

When I got back home I took another walk and saw that my neighbor's pokeweed berries are completely ripe and the birds have begun to eat them. This isn't supposed to happen for another month.

The sun is setting earlier making our days shorter and nights longer.

I showed you the ways I felt and saw that autumn was near. This is how I heard that autumn is near. The daily and nightly chorus of dog-day cicadas has ended. The dog-day cicadas that came up from the ground, had their last molt and became adults. They found mates, the females have laid their eggs and all of the adults have died.

Crickets are what I hear at night now. I already miss the melodies from the cicadas and katydids.

For those of you who like cold weather, these are good signs for you. As for me, I hate the thought of putting flannel sheets on my bed and preparing for hibernation.

Sadly, the summer is almost over. I like autumn as it is still pretty nice and warm and we have milld weather in general. But seeing the leaves changing colours and falling down makes me feel melancholic.

It is sad for me too. I have a terrible time when everything dies...the leaves, flowers, grass, insects, etc. and all that is left is a drab brown, cold and silence. So depressing. I hate that 4 letter word s**w. I can't even say it. LOL!

LOL, that word is not so bad when it come to xmas time. But I prefer the warm weather and I would not mind if have to skip the winter.

simply beaytiful!

Thanks so much @nilom! : )

I to am seeing signs that fall will soon be upon us with the shorter days and changing colors it had been cooler but the last couple of days and today summer is getting bing a little fight and it’s warmed up a little

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

Glad to hear that your last couple of days have been warm for you. Pretty soon your beaches will be bare.

Ohh yes I am already noticing less people out for mornings walks, but I love the beach any time of year even overwinter I will do the occasional morning beach walk

Love it. It will be January here in north Florida before my maples turn color like that! It’s funny, but down here I pretty much hibernate in the hot humid summer, and long for the relatively cooler and less humid fall days when I will take brisk walks again!

Thanks @dmcamera! I think I need to move to Florida. LOL!
What is that saying? Different strokes for different folks. Enjoy your fall days and thanks for stopping by! : )

It’s why we have Snowbirds. They come from up north once our heat and humidity is gone and stay until spring appears up north. 😊

Squirrley is worried about the winter.

Your most welcome and glad you enjoyed getting out 👍

Yes autumn is very near to us. Nice photography also.

I wish it wasn't near. Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by! : )

very creative pictures

Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by! : )

What a great walk! So once acorns begin to turn brown they won't germinate? I didn't know that. Congrats on the Blocktrades vote!

Thanks Melinda! Acorns need to be picked right at the beginning of them turning brown for them to germinate. After that, especially when completely brown, they are no good for germination.
I was shocked to see the Blocktrades vote and extremely grateful. Who do I thank? @acidyo? I am not on Discord because of my eyes so should I write a thank you in the comments of @acidyo's latest post? What do you think I should do? Thanks for your help. : )

That is a good question. You made me realize that I do not know who is being Blocktrades. I don't think it is Acidyo, but you may know more than I do! There is a @blocktrades blog. Maybe you could comment on the post that they put up 3 days ago and thank them there?

No, I certainly do not know more than you do. This is all very new to me. I think I will comment on Acidyo's latest post and see what he has to say. I will let you know.

It seems to me that I have heard the name behind Blocktrades before, but it was not anyone I knew of.

I left a comment on Acidyo's latest post today so I will let you know what the response is.

oh no! Preparing for hibernation! Dratts, that sucks. Although flannel sheets sound cozy. Wonderful photos here Butterfly!

Dratts again. LOL! Thanks for your kind words and support @janton! : )
