Are you ready to be rich?

"If I can't handle $45k a year, I can't handle a million."

I was in my 20s sitting with a group of people most of whom had financial problems and we were talking about winning the lottery.   Everyone was saying how a wind fall of money would change their lives.   The excitement level of picturing our imagined wealth was interrupted when a quiet guy made the statement that if you can't handle what you already have you will not be able to manage and keep more.  I remember being startled by the truth of his statement.

Lottery winners and the bankruptcy rate of the winners points out what is obvious.  If you can't manage and grow what you currently have; you will not suddenly gain that knowledge when more money arrives.  It is more likely that you will continue to manage money with the same skill set you already have and soon fall back to where you were when you gained it.

I've heard many people who plan on being Crypto Millionaire on SteemIt, but are you ready?  Don't tell me, but while you wait for the millions  to roll in this could be a good time to evaluate your skills.

Quick check:

  • Are your current finances in chaos?
  • Is your life-style one that jeopardizes your ability to hold weath?
  • Do you have outstanding debt, legal fees, taxes or  previous financial messes? (Are others entitled to what you might gain?)
  • Do you often budget less or more than you need to live, vacation, build a project, etc.

If you answered yes to any of the questions above it is a red flag regarding your financial skills.  Don't be sad though, the good news is managing finances is a skill set, meaning it is something you can learn if you acknowledge you need additional training.  It is strange to me that we don't acknowledge that any skill is gained by practice.  Why wouldn't holding on to money take skill and discipline like any other task we set out to accomplish?

Don't tell me your answer, but the first step is to ask yourself . . .

Are you ready to be rich?

@whatsup

Sort:

I have an old book, 'The Richest Man in Babylon' that I listen as an audiobook which gives some good advice on financial management.

The situation you describe is something that I have been giving some serious consideration and I've been writing in my journal some of things I would like to do with my money.

People would be shocked if they knew how little money I've been earning the past few years, I make it go a long way. I can't wait to blow everyones minds when I bring in much more. I would just be thrilled with a decent passive income :-D

I’m ready @whatsup, so any whales can feel free to delegate SP to me :)

I sucked at it for a long time but buckled down a few years ago. Started with paying down debt, then a little bit of silver stacking, then dabbling in Bitcoin.

My car's almost paid off, less than a thousand on my credit card, ready to be rich. But, meh, will settle for not being poor when I retire.

Me too. When I was younger I spent more than I had and wasted 2 opportunities to put away some wealth.
I did much better a bit later.

Previously i had financial issues but now my life is running smoothly. Only thing i have is a personal loan i took from a bank and it will be finished next year.
Now I am managing my income and saving few for enjoyment.
Cheers!

Everything does indeed comes in practice and time .Just have to be patient and go along with it .
Who does not have problems .We get to deal with it in our own way !

Yes I am ready friend @whatsup and I want to be rich so that I can give everything of this world to my family ..

managing finances is something that should be taught in school, but for some reason isn't, probably because it's not in the interests of those who feed off of this financial illiteracy.
