Maximizing Family Education When Stay at Home
The spread of the corona virus (Covid-19) is increasingly widespread, so the government makes social policy distancing. Even some areas have announced when the lockdown will be. Then what about the fate of education in the midst of the circulation of the covid-19 virus?
Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim issued a Circular which was signed on March 24, 2020 numbered 4 in 2020. Among these SEs is about how to prioritize the health of students, teachers and all school members, including the decision to cancel the 2020 national exam (UN).
One of the appeals in the Circular is there are learning points at home. Well This is a good opportunity that can be used by families to maximize their special role in educating and supervising their children. Stay at home policy inevitably requires that school roles (temporarily) will be replaced by families. Especially in helping and assisting their children in doing some school work.
The role of family education cannot actually be considered trivial, where every time the child actually has received indirect education from his family through internalization of the values applied in the family, parents are sometimes unaware that what is being done will be a concrete example that will become part of the child's character . Therefore, by staying at home the family can take the maximum role involved in the education process comprehensively.
Togetherness and intimacy in the family will be very effective to build communication between family members, with the spirit of carrying out the mission of building a quality family, parents must be more optimal in the daily monitoring of their children.
While in the use of gadgets during stay at home, of course it also becomes a phenomenon that cannot be separated from our children. So parents need as much as possible not to stutter about technology, not only can buy children with expensive gadgets but neglect what their children do. There needs to be openness between children and parents about what content they are surfing on social media. This is where parents are needed to deal with the phenomenon of today's children who spend their time with their fingers on the gadget screen.
This policy is part of the domino effect of the current conditions, and is felt to be the most appropriate, because saving human lives (students, teachers and other school members) is more important, whatever the reason this is a necessity that must be accepted as a consequence, and should not be blame the situation but with the current conditions must be very clever in finding appropriate and directed solutions so that the important function of education does not lose its meaning and harm especially for children. Therefore the role of Family Education can be more active, participatory, collaborative with schools, with the spirit of educating the nation's children.
