Mortal Online 2 - Closed Alpha Preview
Mortal Online 2 is a next generation first-person MMORPG in a fantasy setting and currently in a closed alpha state. I was lucky enough to get access to this version. Lets take a look together.
What ist Mortal Online 2?
The MMORPG is the successor to the hardcore MMORPG Mortal Online published in 2010. This has the reputation of only being aimed at players who are very frustration resistant. There is a lot of loot and ganking, i.e. the constant attacking of weaker players, is very present. But PvP fans also love Mortal Online because it's so hard and merciless.
Part 2 strikes the same line with the focus on PvP, but wants to be much more accessible and offer PvE elements.
Mortal Online 2 is a next generation first-person MMORPG in a fantasy setting.
In Mortal Online there are no PvP zones, only an open realistic world where you are free to choose your own path. Experience true real-time combat where you decide every move your character makes and where your personal skill really matters.
Build your own house, or set up a guild to build a keep. With enough power, violence or diplomacy, you and your allies will be able to rule an entire nation.
Choose from many different races and professions. You decide your own style of playing and whether to focus on PvP or PvE, both sharing the same game world. Devote your life to crafting, combat, magic or trading. Discover new skills, tools and resources. Or be the first to explore new areas to put your name on the map.
Character Creation
The character creation in Mortal Online is straight forward. Choose your gender, species (all of them are humanoid), and a few visual options. Set a first and last name and you are ready to go.
In the current version you can also decide to start with some neat gear as well.
Creative as I am I went with "Wirago" the tindremic knight
Our character has genre typical stats like health, strength and intelligence.
Stamina defines how long we can run and how precise we can swing our weapon.
The game does not define some new setting but is properly made.
The Game World
Mortal takes place in the world of Nave. Initially on the continent of Myrland though many other lands wait to be discovered and some are already known to the inhabitants of Myrland.
Thanks to Unreal Engine the world is ... beautifull. Nothing more to add.
Although the world mainly consists of wide areas and dense forests we stumble across seperate buildings or other constructions regulary.
None of them seem forced or missplaced. All in all the devs really try to create a world as realistic as possible. With quite some success I would say.
Unfortunatelly I did not find any volunteers ingame to test the combat system, which lets you swing your sword in various directions as well as block incomming attacks.
It it not as sophisticated as in Mordhau but still pretty solid.
BUT I found some water melons on a stick which I immediately started to battle. Successfull I shall say! 1:0 for Wirago!
Slice and...
... block
Noteworthy Features
As every other RPG Mortal Online comes with a crafting system (including Alchemy, Cooking, Engineering and Weapon crafting).
A nice feature is housing.
Player houses can be built almost anywhere. Anywhere that it is physically possible though in some areas you may need a deed and in some areas npcs may not allow it at all. Not at sea, not in swamp, not close enough to another building to undermine it’s foundations, etc etc. To build a house you need a lot of wood and stone, and for some things the services of an engineer, a building pack and as many helpers as you can get. The more people available to help the faster it can be built - and engineers build a lot faster than unskilled people.
Houses can be built in a variety of styles and sizes. Once built they can be changed inside with regard to floor and walls and can be decorated with a wide variety of items.
I also really enjoyed the atmospheric day and night cycle. Taking a sunbath at the lake or watching stars at night, everything is possible.
What About The Release?
Mortal Online 2 is currently in an alpha. If you want to take part, you can buy the Conflux package for around $ 150 on the official website. This gives you immediate access to Alpha and an account for Mortal Online 1.
How long the MMORPG will be in alpha cannot yet be said by the developers. Only when they are satisfied with the state the online game will start on Steam. According to the developer, Mortal Online 2 will be developed "forever", which is why one cannot speak of a classic release anyways.
Quote - "As long as necessary, however we aim to reach a persistent release state towards the end of 2020."
here will be several packages to buy the game that include different options in game time and other items. When you own the client you need an active subscription to play the game. This is to secure the gaming experience and to offer everything in the game in one single fee.
You will get all future expansions for free.
