"The Sprouting Dandelion" (3d art piece rendering + 3d modeling steps)

in WORLD OF XPILAR5 years ago

It’s been days since I last posted, some things got into the way and also I’m having a hard time finding the inspiration that I need for my 3d art piece.

Earlier today, I saw a dandelion along the walkway which gave me the idea for my next piece. The prickly looking flower has this interesting appeal when done in 3d. This is what I came up to.

The modeling of the flower can be easily done using basic geometry as a starting mass. In this case, I used 3DSmax for modeling and Vray render engine to render the final image.

To start the modeling, go to "Standard Primitives" and choose "GeoSphere". The default segment setting is perfect for now. The roughness of the model can be fixed later.

To create spikes, convert the GeoSphere to "Editable Poly" and then select the faces to be extruded. Make sure to select at least 1 or 2 faces apart.

Extrude the selected faces (see image below).

Scale down to faces

Extrude the selected faces one more time (see image below)

To complete the process, apply the "TurboSmooth modifier", here's the final result of the model.

Hello @wired3d

Excellent, I think it's great everything that can be achieved in 3D you did a great job, the details and the depth of the piece make it look great! Greetings...
