A Wolfs‘ journey around the world … Prague

in #travel7 years ago

I love traveling and one of the privileges of being born and living in Europe is that there's so much to see and do in such a close proximity.

I am also someone who wants to make his own opinion up about something. So when (now I'm showing my age) the 'Iron Curtain' came down and people started going to places like St. Petersburg, Cracow, Budapest or Prague and came back with fantastic stories, I was very skeptical and held off from going myself. In hindsight this was both a mistake and a benefit. By the time I went to visit some of these places, there had been investments in buildings, monuments, etc so the places looked much better as when the Iron Curtain had just come down.

  • Category: City Trip
  • Recommended length of stay: minimum 4 nights on a city break, but take your time if you can, there's a lot more to see around Prague as well
  • Currency: Krone
  • Timezone: GMT+1, the same as Central Europe
  • Perfect for: Long weekend, Romance, Family, History, Bachelor-weekend
  • Target group: Couples, over 50's, colleagues, families, friends, backpackers

Of all the places I have been in the world, Prague is one of my favorites. There are not many places I've returned to for a second time, but I have been to Prague twice so far.

So let me first answer why I love the city so much

  1. For the size of the city there's a lot to do, from history to culture, the city is buzzing with it
  2. All the sights that matter are within walking distance, which makes it easy to navigate and quick to get around
  3. It is very medieval and has a romantic feel about it
  4. Prague is not stuck in the past and has trendy restaurants and clubs

So whether you're looking for a short weekend or a long week away, Prague is the perfect place for you. My personal top 5 of sights to see and do:

  1. Visit the old Jewish quarter, there are fantastic buildings that have stood the age of time and the cemetery is one of its kind
  2. Climb the Townhall with the Astronomical Clock for stunning panoramic views and an insight in the workings of this masterpiece, that was ahead of its time.
  3. Go to a concert in one of the churches or synagogues. The music itself is fantastic and the surroundings add another dimension to the whole atmosphere
  4. Walk from the East side of the river over the Charlesbridge towards the Castle. Take a tour there and finish your time with a visit to the Franz Kafka museum. Make sure you glance in the smallest street in the world, it's so small that it actually has a traffic light as 2 people can't pass one another over there.
  5. Take a walk in the park adjacent to the castle and climb Petrin tower for more stunning views of the city

Nice post. Are you Jewish?

Thanks, yes I'm Jewish. Have you been to Prague yourself?

Great post! It's true that Prague is a wonderful city. I came here for the first time 2 months ago for a 4 months stay and I don't regret it! I'm amazed every time I walk in the city :)

I can't blame you. I had the same feeling when I lived in London, but I wouldn't trade my current village for any place in the world.

I like the place where I live too but I'll see in the future if I'll stay there or not :) I'm still young and a have a lot of places to discover :)

This is probably the last city in Europe that I want to visit (: I don't know why I still haven't been there... The last picture is really beautiful

You're missing out. I don't know anyone who didn't like it.

That's what I've heard :) Time to check the flights (:
