I and my partner have this very unforgettable experience. It was a sunny day and we are having our lunch when my partner’s phone rang. An unknown number appeared on his phone, he thought that it might be an inquiry about his motor parts business so he did not hesitate to answer it. The connection was quite weak but he knew he was talking to a man with bisaya accent. The man asked him if he was talking to Emil San Juan, so my partner just said yes. He said that he is a hired gunman and a powerful person instructed him to kill my partner. My partner was shocked so he put the phone into a loudspeaker mode so I can also hear it. He asked the man what he really means to clarify what the man just said, then the man repeated himself about a powerful person who hired to kill him. We both wonder who that powerful person would be? We never “argabyado” anyone and we are not that rich to have a sort of powerful competitor in the business. So my partner asked who’s the person behind, but the man refused to tell because his life might be in danger as well. The conversation continued, he said that he knew where my partner exactly lives in Naga City. He also said that he has a recorded evidence of their conversation with the person who hired him and he is willing to give it to my partner if they will meet in a certain store. He also instructed my partner not to tell the police or anyone about their conversation. He said that he has 3 hired gunman in the area of Naga City who is watching over my partner’s family and if he does anything wrong they will kill his whole family. We were on shocked, worried and scared at the same time. It was a death threat!

As the conversation continues the man said that he really doesn’t want to involve my partner’s family on this matter and he just want to withdraw his contract with the person who hired him. And the only way to do it is if my partner will send him money so he can send his 3 hired gunman back in Mindanao. My partner asked how much does each person need, and the man said that each need 5000 pesos, that means my partner should give a total amount of 15000 for the three of them. Unexpectedly the call got disconnected. Then questions in our mind came up, there’s something wrong with it. First, the man was so sure that my partner lives in Naga City, where in fact he’s been living here in Legazpi City for quite a while now. Second, his family is not living in Naga City either and Third, why he doesn’t have money to send his hired gunman back in Mindanao? For sure they have money because they were paid to do such crime right? Few minutes later, the phone rang again but this time my partner shut it off. He opened the laptop and did some research and he found this article Modus Operandi where hired guns ask for money

We listened to the audio recording and we found it very similar to what we encountered earlier. It was a modus operandi. We finally feel relieved…. A few minutes later my partner turned his phone on and got a text message from the man telling those threats about his family again.

We ignored it and open his Facebook account. The caller might have been observing his facebook since then. His current city and hometown posted on his facebook account is Naga City, that’s probably why the gunman thought that he is currently in Naga City. He might also have noticed those clients buying from his online store and thought that he’s making a huge amount of money from this business. Few months later there`s another caller asking if he is talking to Emil San Juan, then later started talking about a person who hired him etc.. My partner immediately shut his phone off because we already learned our lesson.

So if you tend to post luxury things, money, travel, and business on social media, please.................

Hide your private informations such as email, phone number, birthday, address and other important information that can be used against you. I don’t also advise using your full name on your social media account. And if you receive such call from an unknown number, immediately turn it off. Don’t give them the chance to threaten you. Stay alert, the predator might just roaming around and will attack you anytime.
