Does Subway Make Good Food?

in #food6 years ago

Eat Fresh. That’s what they’d like to you believe when you go into a SUBWAY sandwich hut. Think outside the box. Don’t get fast-food. Don’t get fat… come eat our hoagies and make your life better.

We all remember Jared and his getting-all-thin-then-being-a-pervert-just-like-we-knew-he-was ways. But did he really lose all those pounds like that? You believe that shit?

Obviously, it’s fairly easy to accept that NOT eating fried potatoes, chunks of chicken and greasy hunks of meat, is PROOOOOOBABLY good for you. But just because they don’t serve that shit there, does that make it healthy?

As Kieran Culkin’s character “Wallace” so famously says in SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, when Scott says he’s eat bread every day, “You’d get fat.” Because as poor Scott comes to learn… bread makes you fat.

So is cramming an 8 inch diameter, foot long log of carbo-happy bread of varying colors and densities, really that good for you?

And let’s talk about the meat. The joke has always been that it’s all just dyed turkey with the only real variation being the roast “beef.” But now they have these chicken chunks and as of press time today, this writer can tell you that while seasoned well, and topped with all the free veggies I could ask for, the “chicken” is just too damn soft. The consistency is all wrong. It’s like some chicken substitute meant for the toddlers and the elderly.

It ain’t right dammit.

But what do you think? Is it a healthy alternative to the fat fuck meals of the major fry-em-if-you-got-em chains?

Is it just a bread den like you might find next to a the seediest heroin joint in 1940’s Chinatown?

Does anyone know what “healthy" means?

I use to think I was eating healthy at subway but it's not really healthy. I never eat fake food any more. only real food for me lol :) Haven't eaten a piece of bread in over a year. No pizza no fast food ever again.

No pizza? Seems like a tough road to walk, but I commend you for it. And yeah, giving up bread is super hard. There's just so many delicious ways to use it. But like you said, not super healthy.

When I was a university student (and a few years after that!) I had a kind of obsession with Subway and thought they were healthy. Then one day I just woke up and looked at the chicken properly and realised it looked fake as f**k! I haven't set foot in a Subway for years now and don't intend to. I'm slowly going off a lot of restaurants and focusing on creating good healthy meals at home where I know the ingredients are real!

The chicken is just too soft to be chicken.

Expensive and unhealthy food

I love subway, eat there 2-3 time / week. I usually just get the tuna or turkey sub...foot long that I split with my wife.

The turkey sub is fantastic. Look, I'm not saying the food doesn't taste good. But do you feel like you're eating healthy when you eat there? Not that every meal has to be, just curious about your thoughts.

My favorite sandwich is the tuna, followed by the turkey and meatball. I try to stay away from all the other meats...cold cuts...nitrates...red meat.

I feel this is a better healthy choice than McDonalds, Wendys, etc.

Fuck Subway and their silly putty ingredients they put in their bread! Boycott ALL fast food. I'm proud of myself, I've gone almost 6 months now without eating bread. And when I was eating bread I was eating the gluten free kind.

That is a serious accomplishment. What bread typed food do you miss the most?

I would have to say Dave's Killer Bread. But he sold out a few years ago. He never made a gluten free anyways so I had to switch. Besides Dave I'd say the Aldi's has a good gluten free bran.

I think fast foods mean you own hating yourself because fast increase cholesterol levels and many other issues that's why I don't want to eat fast food I think Subay foods company will be not doing good job that all are runing in profit race nothing else but thanks for sharing this great post @writesbackwards

Hahaha, it definitely does feel life self hate, when I put that doughy, "meaty" thing on my plate.

Subway food throughout the world is junk, junk, junk. We have subway type outlets at bus and taxi ranks and there has just been a huge outbreak of Listerosis where a number of people have died, and it has been traced backed to a cheap meat food called "polony". Supposedly a thick slice of this polony and a fried egg on a bun or between 2 chunks of bread is a good meal.!!!!!!

Does any big fast food store use real meat anymore? In my opinion, no,just a regulated proportion of the meaty mass is actually real meat.

Healthy? Hell no, but nobody cares enough to change something, because money rules the world. And with less real meat used, more money can be saved, meat is not getting spoiled as fast as usual and logistics might get easy, too.

Junk food is junk food. Subway is unhealthy.

Could the chicken perhaps be chickfu (like tofurky but different)? Tofu seasoned with chicken flavoring? I used to eat Subway a lot. But then got food poisoning from a late night sandwich run. Won't get my patronage anymore.
