Several species hold these criteria, and this may not be those that you believe. Here are 10 of the animals most intelligent.

Octopodes continue to surprise us! My most recent surprise—since I'd already heard about their curiosity and problem solving—is that the plural of octopus is octopodes rather than octopi.

For some of us octopi seems comfortable because many English words that come from Latin nouns of the second declension end in 'us' and form plurals this way.

But the root of octopus is actually from the Ancient Greek language, not Latin. Therefore if you want to be true to the etymological roots the Greek-based plural is octopodes. Although some speakers advocate for following the more general rule for English plurals regardless of origin...octopuses.

I wonder if the octopodes could figure all that out.

This is an extremely enlightening post and i will definitely vote for it. But at the same time i would like to mention "the ant" as a notable intelligent creature. I actually wrote able the ant in my last post and some of what makes it one of the most intelligent creatures on earth, such as how ants are the only creatures aside from man who rare other creatures and their social interactions, division of labour and how they run their society.
