🎮 We Have Games on Steem – But Where Are All the Players?
Are Steemians interested in gaming, or do they simply not know what is available?
I have been thinking about something lately.
We have several games available on Steem, but where are all the players?
Over the years, I have seen many projects come and go. Some have attracted attention, while others have struggled to build an active player base.
I have personally invested time and resources into gaming projects such as Steem-Bingo and Steem4Poker because I believe games can bring more activity, entertainment, and interaction to our blockchain.
But one question keeps coming back to me:
Why are so few Steemians playing?
Is it because people are not interested in games? Or is it simply because they don't know these games exist?
Perhaps we need to do a better job of promoting the gaming opportunities already available on Steem.

I have put together a list of nine games and gaming platforms connected to Steem.
Some offer competitive gameplay, others provide entertainment, and some give players the opportunity to compete for rewards.

🤔 So Why Aren't More People Playing?
Looking at this list, we can see that there are several gaming opportunities available.
Developers have spent time creating these projects, and some have invested considerable resources into bringing games to the Steem blockchain.
But developing a game is only half the challenge.
The other half is attracting players and keeping them interested.
I know from my own experience with Steem-Bingo and Steem4Poker that building an active player base is not easy.
You can have a working game, offer prizes, and organize tournaments, but without enough players, it becomes difficult to create the activity needed to keep things going.
Perhaps we are not doing enough to promote these projects.
Perhaps many Steemians simply don't know they exist.
Or maybe people prefer writing posts, commenting, and curating rather than playing games.
I don't know the answer, and that is exactly why I am writing this post.
💬 I Would Like to Ask the Steem Community a Few Questions
1. Did you know that all these games existed on Steem?
Perhaps you recognize some of them but have never heard of the others.
2. Have you ever played any games on Steem?
If yes, which ones, and what was your experience?
3. If you haven't played, what is the main reason?
You didn't know the games existed.
You are not interested in gaming.
You don't want to risk your STEEM.
You find it difficult to get started.
There are not enough active players.
Something else?
4. What kind of games would you like to see on Steem?
Poker, bingo, chess, strategy games, arcade games, or something completely different?
5. What would encourage you to participate?
Would free tournaments, more prizes, better instructions, or regular gaming events make a difference?
Or is there something else developers should focus on?
🚀 Gaming Could Bring More Activity to Steem
I believe gaming has the potential to bring people together and create another reason to use the Steem blockchain.
Not everyone wants to spend their time writing blog posts.
Some people might prefer playing games, competing in tournaments, or simply enjoying themselves with other members of the community.
Gaming could also introduce new users to Steem who might not otherwise be interested in a blogging platform.
But we need to understand what people actually want.
There is little point in continuing to develop games if we don't understand why people are not playing them.
And perhaps we should also become better at supporting and promoting the developers who are already building something for Steem.

The purpose of this post is not to promote only my own games.

This is an interesting topic, @xpilar. Honestly, I think one of the biggest problems is awareness. Many Steemians may not even know that these games exist.
I personally enjoy gaming, and I think games could bring a different kind of activity to Steem beyond posting and commenting. However, easy access, clear instructions, active players, and free or low-cost opportunities would probably make it easier for new users to try.
I knew about Steem-Bingo and Steem4Poker, but I wasn’t aware of all nine games you mentioned. This post itself is a good way to introduce them to the community. I’ll definitely check some of them out.

It is not awareness. It is hard to oversee all those reports. You all seem to forget not everyone is a gamer and to many this is not different from gambling.
A few months ago we lost Steemians who once were addicted to gaming and became addicted again.
It might be good to consider to have one community for all the games, where those interested can go and play and will be informed.
Right it feels most communities are flooded by "reports" which is not very inviting.

Personally, I have played several of the games available on the platform—though not all of them. In fact, I only learned of their existence through the cover images of posts where users share their experiences. For a while, I didn't really pay attention to reports from the developers until I realized it was just another option available on Steemit. In fact, I just found out about another one (#9) today.
To be honest, the idea of playing and then posting about every single match doesn't really appeal to me; I’ve only posted when playing a game for the first time—partly to show support for the developers and partly to raise awareness about these options on the platform.
I actually thought users were more active than what was mentioned in @xpilar’s post and @blazeapp’s comment.
That said, I can mention that I have played the retro games, Memory, and Ludo (in free mode). I’m neither a gamer nor a gambler (I don’t think I’m very lucky, and I’m too stingy to risk my Steem). I imagine my situation is similar to that of many other users.
I prefer arcade and casual entertainment games over competitive ones. Even though I’ve enjoyed the times I’ve played, I don’t usually go back constantly because I don’t want to get hooked—it takes up too much time. It’s easy to spend a Lot of time with those games, unlike (I guess) entering a bet on Bingo.
Regarding people with gaming or gambling addictions, it’s hard to keep that under control. It’s unfortunate when people relapse due to these recreational activities on the platform, though I think it’s something beyond the developers' control. I don’t know how one could help them; a small disclaimer—like the ones found on cigarette packs or alcohol bottles—at the bottom of game invitations would likely be insufficient, but would be mandatory.
Finally, I can see consistent participation from a number of users who are always posting about this, and I have no doubt that playing and posting has brought them rewards (though perhaps more from posting than from playing 🤔).
My concern in this regard is whether—for the sake of statistics and ensuring developers are rewarded for their work—what matters is simply remaining on the gaming platforms, or if actually publishing something about it is also important.

I assume the player cannot pick his own numbers or card?
Given that there’s a team of curators who focus specifically on gamers, I assume the intention is to write about this too, and that this is simply extra publicity. I’ve no idea whether there’s a core group of gamers or whether there are also casual gamers. If you’re addicted, you’re addicted; a chain smoker just carries on smoking, even if the packet says it causes cancer , makes infertile and shows pictures of black lungs, and so on and so forth, and the same goes for alcoholics. If you drink, you drink.
What I personally find annoying is that these reports are posted literally everywhere and that there are very few communities left that still feature mainly normal content. That’s a shame, and I also think that if this is the trend, there’s little point in promoting creativity or good content. The question, then, is how the platform will be presented to the outside world in future: as a casino?
I also tried out the retro games when they were still in their infancy and spotted the flaws, and wrote reviews about them; the same goes for my children, a part of them are into IT and two are gamers. Pointing out these flaws plus the fact it was easy to hack and just copied from the world wide web wasn’t exactly appreciated.
Incidentally, I don’t really consider buying a bingo card to be playing a game. It’s a one-off action, and afterwards you hear something – or nothing.
What I now find irritating is that when I go to SteemX, I’m immediately confronted with pop-up adverts urging me to start gaming. I think this goes a bit too far and is also a good reason to stick with steemit.com.

Sería un verdadero despilfarro de recursos limitarla a ciertos temas por el simple hecho de prevenir la adicción o los comportamientos compulsivos. Debemos tener claro que uno de los objetivos de todo negocio es atraer a más personas, sobretodo inversionistas, dejando saber que en el mundo de los juegos en linea hay muchos, trayendo como ejemplo aquel juego muy famoso llamado Axis Infinity.
Por otro lado, siempre habrá abusadores queriendo aprovecharse de las recompensas que se brindan por promover o apoyar los juegos Steem, esto sucede con el #thediarygame, y con los diferentes desafíos que se promueven en la plataforma. Es parte de los equipos de curation detectar, avisar y omitir a estos usuarios cazadores de recompensas.

It is important to bear in mind that a platform as large as Steem needs to offer topic options that cater to every individual or group worldwide. Limiting it to specific subjects—simply to prevent addiction or compulsive behavior—would be a genuine waste of resources. We must recognize that a key objective for any business is to attract more people—especially investors—by highlighting the vast potential within the online gaming world; the famous game Axie Infinity serves as a prime example of this.
On the other hand, there will always be abusers looking to take advantage of the rewards offered for promoting or supporting Steem games; this happens with #thediarygame and the various challenges promoted on the platform. It is up to the curation teams to detect, flag, and bypass these reward-hunting users.

I find it very hard to believe that many users do not even know there are games on Steemit. There communities with those posts or many of them.
You seem to forget one important thing: the average Steemian is jobless in the real world and subscribed to earn, not to buy Steem, not to invest in gaming.
Investors are needed to pump up the value of Steem!
@steem-bingo has an average of 31 players a day . Provided the bingo is just a minute interaction or less . We can assume how much much less users interest remains on the entire steem ecosystem .

Hi @xpilar, I think slowly it is clear for many people that there are Games on Steemit platform, there are some people who play but you are right the number of people who do that is very little.
I think there are few reasons:
Steemit is platform where people earning reward and for that they have to produce quality content, for that they need to write posts, with minimum of 200+ posts, that is time consuming. Also the posts have to have images, that means people have to go around and make nice photography to their posts. That means that users have to spend couple of hours for making posts
in order to grow on Steemit they need to get more Steem and that is earning with good comments especially nowadays with new Engagement challenges that pay attention to the quality content. That is also takes time for good commenting
users need to spend time for their other daily activities, family work, children and there is not much time for gaming
people who did not play games before, they will not start now, that is an example from me. I never p layed any computer game and likely I will not be interested in any game, sorry. Even when I was younger and my friends were playing games that always made me irritated.

It is hard to miss all those reports of games. To be honest I find it annoying. It looks cheap, all the same, and one big advertisement. It might be different or more inviting if the flood of reports look different, more like a post.
It is getting harder and harder to find a normal or creative post.

The long lists of the players of different games. It tires out same for all those with reports of the so called best posts of the day or the week.

As the developer of the new game "Steem Flags", I believe that Steem games—regardless of who their investors or developers are-must have a shared official website.
This dedicated Steem gaming hub should serve as a home for developers and enthusiasts alike; it should regularly feature introductions, reviews, and critiques of these games, while establishing a framework for competition based on metrics such as player count and quality. It needs to function as an extensive promotional network to attract investment for game development and provide support for all Steem game developers and players.
Currently, the "Steem Gaming Hub" community exists on the Steem platform and has a Discord server; unfortunately, I am currently experiencing issues accessing it, which means I cannot reach the channel for my own game, "Steem Flags".
