Although EOS blockchain offers free and fast transactions, creating a new account isn't free. To operate an account, one needs to buy some RAM and sake some EOS tokens towards CPU & NET. So if you don't know any existing EOS account holder, you can't get an EOS account.

Whats the purpose of getting an eos account?
Good question! If you want to hold your EOS tokens or several other tokens issued on EOS blockchain in your own wallet, then you will need an EOS account. To login and interact with carious Dapps on EOS, you need your own account too.
Think like if you hold some ETH or ERC-20 tokens, you create a metamask or MyEtherWallet acccounts on Ethereum chain. Similarly, on EOS, you should have your own EOS wallet instead of entrusting centralized exchanges. Once you have your own account, you can also vote for EOS BPs.

Tried to create an account using murmur and your referral code. I get an error message saying account name must be exactly 12 characters and (a-z1-5) which is exactly what I'm doing, but no luck! Any thoughts? Using Android version of the app downloaded from the playstore
