Lou Macari first attracted the attention of English clubs while playing at Glasgow Celtic. During his 10 year career there he won 2 Scottish Leage and 2 Scottish Cup.
Lou almost became a Liverpool player. In an effort to approach Lou, legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly invited the Scottish striker to FA Cup tie Liverpool vs Burnley at Anfield. Incidentally, United's assistant manager at the time, Pat Crerand, sat near them. Knowing that Liverpool was approaching Lou, Pat immediately persuaded him to join United alone. Five days later, on January 20, 1973, Lou officially joined Manchester United for £ 200,000. For one thing Bill Shankly then announced to the media that he was only planning to put Lou back in Liverpool.

23. Nobby Stiles

Nobby Stiles, the native son of Manchester-born Collyhurst May 18, 1942 debuted in October 1960 against Bolton Wanderers. Although only 18 years old, his performance made Matt Busby very impressed to lose it in 31 games in that season.
In the beginning of his career, every time before Matt Busby's match always gave him a simple instruction, "Norrie, make sure your opponents know you're there in the first 5 minutes". The advice is so true that Nobby is famous as an uncompromising player with hard tackling that can break down the opponent's game, but is also equipped with sufficient passing and creativity that often provide mature passes for United's front line that is occupied by "Holy Trinity" Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, and George Best. He helped United become champions of the English League in 1965 and 1967.
