Hello everyone! Today I thought of sharing a post on how my mother and I fried a Tenggiri Fish with spices. It is called Spanish mackerel fish in English but it is more commonly known as 'ikan tenggiri' here in the local language which is Malay.

Ingredients

Well we only tried it on one piece of the fish first to see how it will turn out. The following are the ingredients.

  • a slice of the Spanish mackeral fish (tenggiri)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of fish curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala
  • a pinch of pepper
  • salt to taste

Method

Mix all the spice powders together. Then, run them all over the fish and marinate it for 10 minutes.

Prepare the fryer by filling it with sufficient oil and turn it on so it heats up. Once the fryer is ready, place the fish on the frying container and dip it into the oil. Close the lid and wait for about 5 minutes. You can also fry the fish in a wok but I prefer the fryer as it prevents the kitchen from getting oily.

After 5 minutes, take the lid off and raise the frying container to check on the fish. Check if it is ready. If it is not ready then dip it into the oil to fry for a few more minutes. If it is ready then take it if out and let it cool.

As it is deep fried, place a kitchen towel on a place and then place the fish on it. That way, the excess oil can be absorbed.

You can remove the kitchen towel after a few minutes so it looks pleasant while being served. I removed it too for aesthetic purposes :D It looks a lot better here with good lighting.

By the way, this is our weekend lunch. Apart from the fried Spanish mackerel, we also had some dhal curry, eggs fried with chives or better known as kuchai vegetable and some fried long beans as well. Overall, a simple but fulfilling lunch. I hope that your weekend lunch was/is good too.
