Kim's Taste #5: Get that Monster Snow Cream at Snowbowls

Wow! Everything's rolling fast! I'm now at the fifth version of Kim's Taste and there's no indication of slowing down. I'm actually enjoying this, so I won't stop either. Anyway, this is my second review of a dessert shop and I must say that it's exciting because I'm amazed of the out of my first review. This time, it's about a place in Parkmall, Mandaue City where they offer shaved gelato ice cream. Excited like me? Let's start!

Before the review proper, I will have to remind everyone that this is my personal account of my experience in a certain restaurant, cafe, dessert place, or any food stall that I happened to visit.

Remember: If you happen to be in one of the restaurants in my review, we might have different preferences, as well as experiences, so our ratings might not be exactly the same.

I will try to be fair and reasonable in my reviews so I will have to divide the review in four (4) categories namely: Food, Ambience, Service, and Price. I will give ratings from 1 to 5 depending on my experience. And as always, my food escapades are exclusive for @tasteem.

The name of that dessert place is Snowbowls. Now, let's have some brain freeze!

Snowbowls offers a certain niche when it comes to desserts and that is shaved gelato or as they call it, "snow cream". So, for those who gave reviews online that their selections are not varied when it comes to desserts, you missed the idea that they offer a specialty product.

Snowbowls is located at the second floor of Parkmall, Ouano Avenue, Tipolo, Mandaue City, Philippines.

Let's start with their "snow cream".

FOOD (Dessert) - 4.7/5

Their serving size is gargantuan! I couldn't even finish 1/4 of that monster snow cream. It's fluffy, creamy, and you'll definitely get that brain freeze if you're not slowing down. The toppings were added generously that the whole ensemble is towering.

Did I mention that they have magic spoons? Yes! It's an added part to the whole experience. The moment that plastic spoon touches that ice cold dessert, a change in color will happen. It's a fun thing to see and my friends were really enjoying.

As for their shaved gelato, they have four choices of flavors to choose from:

1. Dangerously Rich Chocolate
   We ordered this one and it really give justice to its name. That chocolate ice cream was exquisite. Their choice of toppings also complemented well with the chocolate flavor. I also loved that googly eyes. It really was a dangerous monster.

2. Ludicrous Mango
   This is our second order and I guess it's a given that I'm really biased when it comes to mango. I don't have to say more about this because I believe you should try this one.

3. Ancestral Green
   This is matcha flavored ice and we didn't order this one because I'm not a fan of matcha. If you're into matcha, I guess you'll definitely love this.

4. Bursting Melon
   As the name suggests, it's fruity and sweet. It has a refreshing taste and texture. The toppings surprisingly complemented well with that melon flavor.

There are also other items in their menu that are worth a try. I'll definitely go back and try all of their offerings.

AMBIENCE - 4.6/5

I have to admit that the place is small, but they made a way to make it appear larger than it is. There's a big mirror at the side which creates an illusion that the space is twice than it really is. I think that it's brilliant idea.

The place is well-lighted with LED lights. It's colorful and comforting. Fluffy cottons hang from the ceiling which created a cloud effect. The vibe is vibrant and flashy just like the attitude of the staff.

The place is instagrammable so I won't be surprised if photos are abundant online. I think they're capturing a certain customer demographics. They're appealing to the younger generation, but it doesn't mean the older ones cannot enjoy their "snow cream".

SERVICE - 4.9/5

The owner of the shop is very accommodating. I guess that's a common review when it comes to service, but Snowbowls raise the bar a little higher when it comes to accommodating guests.

I can still remember when we entered the place, he immediately greeted us with a flashy smile. When we had our orders, he suggested on what flavors to choose and which ones are their bestsellers. He also offered some freebies so that we can save.

In some cafes or restaurants, I don't even care about the staff. I mean that it's standard to be friendly and accommodating, but it's different in Snowbowls.

PRICE - 4.6/5

I thought that the price is not worth it at first. It's a little bit pricey to me since at the Php 200+ range, but given the serving size and the load of toppings, it's really worth it.

Their serving size is good for a minimum of 3 people, so the price is just right. When you visit Snowbowls, you should bring your friends with you. Don't even think that you can gobble down the whole serving.

OVERALL - 4.7/5
