Movie Review - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing,Missouri - Full English Review
Genre: Black Comedy, Drama
IMDb Rating: 8.4 / 10
Three billboards outside Ebing, a small town in Missouri. Some weird sentences instead of advertisements on billboards but these are the words that broke the people of this small town in two. One side is Mildred Hayes, the other is City Sheriff Bill Willoughby. But why?
‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ is one of the best films of 2017, no doubt about it after watching it. A great movie, scripted and directed by Martin MacDonald, ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’, but the development of its story has fascinated me more than the whole movie. So I have to use different parts of the story to discuss it even if I don't want to.
Although the story is arranged in the context of a fictional city, it is basically based on a little true story. But not completely. While on the streets of Georgia, director McDonnell observes the strange use of some billboards, where one used the same billboards to draw public attention to the resolution of an unresolved case, the way Mildred Hayes used the character in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri." After seeing these billboards, McDonnell decided on a plot for the film.
Oscar-winning actress Francis McDermott plays Mildred Hayes. Personally, she is one of my favorite and one of the most energetic actress I have ever met. But even after so many years of great career, this is probably his best performance. His expressions, dialogue delivery, his body language; Everything is over the top performance. Especially when he defends himself to the pastor of the city at his home, he has made this part extraordinary in the slightest.
Why does Mildred Hayes use billboards? Because her daughter was raped and murdered seven months ago. But so far the police have not been able to catch the killer. That is why this strange arrangement is to bring this incompetence of the police in front of everyone. But unusually more people are against Mildred than against him. Why? Because the police have tried. But that formula is needed to sidestep the mystery. What to do if it is not? And, City Sheriff Bill Willoughby is a principled policeman and respected figure. And he's dying.
This is partly because of the use of spoilers. Woody Harrelson as Bill Willoughby is excellent. But his character time is much shorter. But that doesn't mean his character is less used. I like this part more. Bill Willowy's character was always in the middle of the story, even though it wasn't halfway through the movie. Like the people of the city, once the audience wants to go for Mildred, the next time Mildred gets angry, it will feel bad for Willoughby. And even if it's not on the Willow screen. This is the most powerful part of 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri' to me. The characters are able to reach their destination very naturally, without any force, even with the help of such a character, he is not at all. And without bringing that character to the screen, it is creating a special respect for him.
The third of the three main characters is Bitcoin officer Jason Dixon. The mind will want to hate this character played by Sam Rockwell all the time. Jess Dixon has all the qualities that Americans dislike a cop. Racism, carelessness, neglect of responsibility; Everything is in the middle of this character. But there is also a soft mind, which has not yet come in front of everyone. The late Bill Willoughby helped bring out this other entity of Dixon. Dixon cries at the news of Willoughby's death, but the next moment he leaves the police station and goes to the next billboard office to beat the manager in anger or become a good last-minute cop, which is what Willoughby wanted; Rockwell's performance throughout is impeccable. MacDonald makes excellent use of Sam Rockwell's acting skills.
The ending was the ending part of the story. Instead of finishing like a typical breath of relief, a little different. What happened in the end was not what Mildred wanted, but it was what he wanted from the bottom of his heart, to keep his anger at bay without ending it, to take away the pain of his daughter's death. So, the last part is a win-win for Mildred. And this is also one of the plus points of the movie.
Other characters included Oscar-nominated actors John Hawks and Lucas Hedges; With Abby Cornish and ‘Game of Thrones’ star Peter Dinklage. Everyone has done very well in their character. But Hedges and Hawks are great. Especially in the scene where Hawks' character gets excited over Mildred, here Hawks and Hedges are both great.
One of the best aspects of the movie is its use of humor in the midst of dark and sensitive stories. For that reason, many people will like it a little more while watching it, many people may not be bothered by watching a drama film. And it's balance. The dark part of the story is not covered behind the black comedy, again this comedy is not covered behind the sensitive story.
Although neither Western nor Neo-Western, there was a slight western touch between the presentation and the management. Which is further influenced by this wonderful background music. The uses of Country Song are great.
‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ is a very successful drama film package. Dramatic stories, black comedy; Can also be thrown in the middle of the crime genre. Great performance of familiar faces. After seeing it come up on the list of best pictures of the year for anyone. At least it's on my best list of 2018, that's all I can say.
