Hello steemians, I have written another post on the #celestialchallenge organised by @sirknight and it is about a bird called the OAHU AKIALOA.

Scientifically called akiola ellisiana, it belongs to the family fringillidae whose habitat is the forest consisting of tall trees to about 200 meters. This bird has a distinctive feature of a long, curved bill which is almost half its body length which it uses to dig for insects on and under the bark of trees and also for taking the nectar from flowers. There are four known types of akialoa which differ from one another in size and length of the bill.

The largest is the greater akialoa which is from the kaua'i island in the north of hawaii while the smallest is the from the south-east on the hawa'i island. The akialoa doesn't move or migrate much like others birds except for when the juveniles are being dispersed. The colour of this bird os mostly yellow green with a dull grey colour so it can camouflage into its environment.

The oahu akialoa is a very beautiful bird but sadly it has gone into extinction not mainly because of human effects although it was already endangered as a result of deforestation, but as a result of the bird's susceptibility to the avain influenza (malaria) carried by mosquitoes.
The kaua'i and the hawa'i akialoa were still common in the 1890s but the hawa'i akialoa was the first to go into extinction between the Early and mid 1900s while the kaua'i akialoa was last sighted in the late 1960s.
So many animals have gone extinct due to human activities which mostly involves destroying there habitat or hunting. These activities should be reduced as some other animals are already in danger of going into extinction too. Thank you for your time.
