-the first pyramid ever built was the pyramid to Djoser in the 27th century BC.
-the zenith of pyramid building was with the great pyramids of giza which is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and the only 1 still in existence.

-the last pyramid to be built was the pyramid of Ahmose constructed for Ahmose 1 who ruled from 1549 BC to 1524 BC.
-each pyramid took around 200 years to build which means several pyramids were built at a time.
-the pyramids were built by workers who were well paidband fed and not by slaves or prisoners
-the pyramids were built to be aligned to the north precisely but now there is just a minimal error as a result of the shifting of the North Pole.
-all the pyramids were built on the west side of the river Nile which is the site of the setting sun and according to Egyptian theology is associated with the realm of the dead.
-the architect in charge of the first pyramid was Imhotep, who was both an engineer and physician.
-an attempt was made to destroy the giza pyramids by Al-Aziz a sultan of Egypt around the 12th century. He didn't succeed because the task was too great but he successful in damaging part of the Menkaure's pyramid.

-the pyramids of giza contain around 2,300,000 stones which weigh differently between 2-50 tons
-originally, pyramids were covered with a kind of limestone that reflected sunlight and this made the pyramids shine like jewels..with the limestone, the pyramids could be seen from the mountains in Israel or the moon.
-there are 138 known pyramids in Egypt with more yet to be discovered.

I've got to say I love the name of the great Pyramid !

Egyptology, both the official version and some of the alt versions are among my favorite topics .

I'd love to go on a rant about the controversy over some aspects of the great Pyramid but I don't want to detract from your great post.

Thanks for posting!
