Needlework Monday : My knitted SIMPLE flowers TUTORIAL 🌸
Welcome to my second needlework Monday. I started knitting some years back and ever since then I have learned some pretty interesting stuff. I am still a newbie but I’ve made some scarfs, ear warmers, a couple of hats and A TIE, yes, a knitted tie. Maybe I will show you that tie on some other Monday :)
Knitting is said to be a great brain exercise, so if you haven’t started knitting already, maybe now is a good time. In this post, I will show you how I make my decorative knitted flowers. You can sow them in on your hats or headbands or whatever you wish, I usually put them on my ear warmers.

The model in this picture is my friend Marina, she’s on steemit too, you can check her out here: @marina-rogic. She is wearing my yellow ear warmers with a blue flower. Can you believe she actually said she could not pull of ear warmers, that she didn’t have the right head and face for it? I made her do this, hihihi, but after she saw the photo she was convinced otherwise and now actually loves ear warmers 💚
YOU WILL NEED
- yarn of wool (not the whole yarn unless you plan to knit a hundred flowers)
- needle and thread
- knitting needles (I used size 5.5 mm here)
- a button
- large sewing needle (the grey one in the picture)

I prefer bamboo knitting needles, but you can use the metal ones if you wish. Since the flower will not go directly on skin but instead on a different product you can use whatever wool you want, even that one that itches :)
FIRST STEP
Cast on 51sts and start knitting rows with stocking stitch (stockinette). You can do one to four rows depending on how big you want your flower to be. For this smaller ones, one row is enough so I made just one.

SECOND STEP
Now comes the first tricky part. Knit your first stitch and then cast off (bind off for you in the US) 9 stitches. Repeat that 5 times. If you are not keen in counting and precision, don’t worry, the flower will look good even if you cast off a different amount of stitches, you can even do 4 repeats or more than five. Everything is fine, just enjoy yourself and try to improvise for the fun of it. The point is this should be simple enough for everyone to be able to do it, and if you do it wrong... Well, you can’t really do it wrong :) This is the way mine looks like after this step:

THIRD STEP
You can cut the yarn now but be sure to leave some length hanging, you will need that for sewing your flower to a product of your choosing later. Pick up your big sewing needle and thread it through the remaining stitches (that are on your knitting needle) and then pull everything tight to draw stitches together and fasten the yarn. Your flower will look like a little bundle now. Since you don’t need a lot of wool for this project, you can use your leftovers instead of throwing them away.

FINAL STEP
All you have to do now is pick a button and sew it in the middle with a needle and a thread. I usually choose black or white ones just to make a bigger contrast between the colors. Even without the button, this would look great as a decorative element on your product.
Your flower is done! Congrats!
Now go on and make a lot of them, maybe together we can call on for spring to come faster with them 💚

There are a lot of beautiful patterns for flowers online that you can check out, this one is the simplest and the quickest to make and I believe anyone with a little knitting experience is able to do it before he or she runs out and starts knitting those complicated ones :) Feel free to leave your comments and pictures of your flowers in them.

These look like fun, I must try some. I have so many buttons!
I looooove buttons. I have them in mason jars, each jar with different color :)
Hi @zen-art, I started knitting a couple of years ago. I must have learnt it in my school days, but I had to re-learn. It is great fun and I find it to be a great stress-reliever. :) I'm still on the "scarves and headbands" stage, so this little flower is great for me. My girls will love it, so thanks for sharing. :) Followed and upvoted. :)
@lil-mich
Yes, these are really simple to make but look AMAZING when you put them on a headband, I just know your girls will love them. Try to do them in a contrasting color from the one your headband is and maybe use a funny button on them.
Thank you for stopping by 💚
Super!
Hvala :)
Thank you for the detailed description! I love the details)
Thank you for appreciating it 💚
This post has received a 0.21 % upvote from @drotto thanks to: @banjo.
I wonder if it is actually as easy as you put it on the post lol! I doubt i have the patience to do something like this.
Well, you won't know until you try :)
Your knitted flowers are so pretty, and I just adore the yellow and blue headband! I love the instructional nature of your post--it helps us to learn. Happy #NeedleworkMonday!
Thank you for saying they are pretty, they appreciate that, it is good for their self-esteem :)
I am glad the instructions are useful. Thanks for stopping by and commenting 💚
Seriously, I'd wear that yellow and blue on in a heartbeat!
Hmmm, maybe we could work something out. I sell them you know... :) and I do accept steem as a currency :)
Yes, indeed! By the way, today I was notified that, if you add the tag "steemshop" to your post, it collects data and vendor who want to sell itmes on Steemit!
Really? That's good to know! I need to investigate that steembay stuff or whatever its called. It's like ebay but you pay with steem.
Simple but effective @zen-art... I thought the flower was crocheted when I first saw it... that's genius !
It is true crochet has more freedom and you can make a lot more different stuff but I just can't get my self to use that funny looking needle :)
Those are cute. I used to see crochet flower embellishments on Etsy. It was a fun project to work up with all my scraps.
Thanks for sharing your needlework
Yes, etsy has some nice ones, and I like to use my scraps too, never throw anything away
Thank you for stopping by darling 💚
