Movie Review: Tall Girl.
Hello, friends Greetings to y'all and a happy new week.
Over the weekend I decided to try something different rather than reading which is movies.
I do enjoy watching movies in most occasions when am not reading. But the idea of a book into a movie is still something I am not actually cool with.
So over the weekend, I decided to watch a Netflix movie titled Tall Girl, with Ava Michelle been the main character of the movie.
It started with a narration by her Jodi saying, "You think your life is hard".
When I heard that first line and the next sentence that follows it, I kinda had a straight up emotions to her immediately. That feeling of sympathy you have for someone who is oppression or not living his or her life in full is there.
Jodi is the tallest girl in high school junior wearing size 13 Nikes. She wasn't comfortable and happy about her body (height) due to the mockery she gets from her mates. A constant reminder to her, like she doesn't belong there.
Her mates always do ask her "how's the weather up there? as a way of mockery.
At a very young age her parents provided normalcy to her. They wanted to stunt her growth but the doctor gave them the consequences of what the result would be and they didn't stunt the growth.
Back at school she has a female friend, Fareeda whom was a supporting pillar to her, always standing out for her.
And a male friend, Dunkleman
whom love her and wanted more than just a friendship with her.
Jodi also had a girl named Kimmy, whom was a bully to her life. She had been making mockery and jest of Jodi right from a very young age (preschool).
Jodi refused to date Dunkleman due to his not up to her height and she was living on the hope that, one day the Mr perfect tall guy would come to her.
Eventually their happens to be a Sweden foreign boy named Stig Mohlin, whom was transferred to Jodi school and her class to be precise.
She immediately feel in love with the guy's look and intelligence (got me smiling and saying, Jodi is a sapiosexual). But then Kimmy comes to play in by wanting the Swedish boy of which Jodi was in love with.
Dunkleman gets to find out that Stig would be staying in his house together with him which got him uncomfortable because he didn't like Stig due to Jodi was head over hills for Stig rather than him. But at that, Dunkleman couldn't do anything about Stig staying with them.
Jodi asks her sister (Harper) for help in getting Stig to notice her since she was tall and he isn't noticing her. but Harper belived that Jodi can not get Stig to notice her when she keeps dressing like a tomboy.
Jodi tired to give into the feminine world of dressing but at the end failed due to she was pranked by Kimmy and a male friend of her's, who acted like it was Stig on the call when it wasn't him.
When Jodi realized, she felt ashamed and shy for falling for their prank and then she tried to hide from Kimmy to avoid embarrassment.
Why trying to hide from Kimmy she Stumbling into Stig playing the piano and at the end they both made a duet together.
Stig called Jodi and invited her to Dunkleman's house to watch a musical. And she showed up at Dunkleman house he wasn't happy that it was Stig Jodi came to visit and it then turns to jealousy. Dunkleman interrupted their evening several times with his behaviour.
At the end Stig escorted Jodi home which on their way, they kissed. Feeling guilty, Stig told Dunkleman about what happened and seeked advice from him. Due to Dunkleman loved Jodi, he told Stig to focus on being with Kimmy. Which Jodi got angry at Dunkleman when she learnt about it.
Shits happened between Dunkleman, Schnipper, Jodi, Fareeda, Stig, Kimmy. But at the end Jodi learnt to love and accept herself for whom she is.
she learnt she's more than her insecurities, especially on the aspect of height.
At the end she gave Dunkleman a chance into her life and he reveals the purpose of him always carrying a milk crate is so as he would be able to stand on it and lean to kiss her.
The movie is a simple reminder that we can find love in odd places. Where we don't expect it from and who the love is from.
I had emotions attached to it because I felt for Jodi. Not that I have same issues with height, but rather the part of longing to be loved by the person you love.
Thanks For Reading
