Atjeh Tram: The Acehnese Train In The Past
The former Aceh railway called Atjeh Tram, when the train in Aceh is used as a means of public transportation city, like climbing Trans Kutaraja at this time.
History of Atjeh Tram began on June 26, 1874, when the Dutch governor in Aceh ordered to build the railroad from the port of Ulee Lheu to Kutaraja which is 5 km long with 1,067 m wide rail.
Instead of intending to be good, at that time the Dutch had another goal, namely to transport all the logistical and weaponry needs of Ulee Lheu to his kutaraja, in order to strengthen his occupation in Aceh.
But gradually, the train was finally functioned also to transport passengers including passengers of Aceh, when the train became the commercial transportation of the people of Kutaraja and the surrounding areas (Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar).
The following year, precisely in 1885, the railway line continued to Gle Kameng-Indrapuri, but was only able to reach Lambaro for security reasons. The spoor width is reduced to 0.75 m with a length of 16 km.
Trains aceh past just like trans kutaraja
The year 1886 opened the path from Kutaraja to Lamnyong. Then built the path from Krueng Cut to the military hospital in Pante Pirak area. This line is used to bring injured and sick people from military posts out of Aceh.
However, unfortunately in 1982 Banda Aceh officially had no railway line anymore. This is because Atjeh Tram is not able to compete with road transport facilities that have been more adequate and also factor Atjeh Tram parts are increasingly difficult to find if damage.
