This is a good point i never thought about it, but also i think that the main cause of dreams is little different, because sometimes the dream is totally different than the real life and will never happen, i think your opinion is part of the truth but there is something missing which everyone only assume depends on their religious views or culture..
I agree with @skririm, and also sometimes the dreams are the same to everybody or especially every kid, like Flying the same way as swimming or Falling from the top and wake up before hitting the floor, or when you scream out loud of fear and no voice heard. I think they are common dreams to everyone
