My Actifit Report Card: September 14 2026

in Actifit • 14 days ago

The weather has finally ceased it’s little temper tantrum, and I say that with love. The past 10 days of rain(sometimes snow) and cold has finally given way back to some typical early fall weather here in Oregon. I have enjoyed it so much; nothing beats waking up to the drumming of water pellets on the van in the middle of the night.. but without heat, I’m ready to get all my shit clean and dry in preparation for some REAL weather.

It was a good learning experience. A sign of things to come; that I knew were coming.. but I needed a little push in the right direction. Today is my only day off work this week, so I find myself on the bus down the hill; hopefully returning with a small propane heater at the very least. Ideally, I’d be picking up a diesel heater today; but we’ll see what Sandy has to offer. The idea of drilling into my near-mint 1994 Chevy gives me some pause; but if I do it right, and do it clean, it will only improve the thing. We’ll see what happens.

The past couple of days have been full of bad timing. Not unexpected, and definitely no surprise.. just intentionally made bad decisions. I genuinely love being in the rain and welcome the shift in seasons, so coming home drenched the last few evenings has been somewhat pleasant, but also defeating. By the time I’m back at the van, the only thing on my mind is fully changing into dry clothes and climbing under the blankets. I need the heater to dry my shoes and clothes almost more than anything else.. I’m fine with it, but having sopping wet sweatshirts and Vans kicking around an otherwise dry and organized box is less than ideal.

I’ve had a couple good days working up at the retail shop, post-Portland adventure. As I passed the 90 days sober mark, I think I am feeling less anxious and much more calm at my various jobs.. an unspoken understanding that I am simply doing the best I can with the situation I’ve put myself in and that all things are going well in the grand scheme of life. Or as well as they could- a million things I need to buy, to improve.. but I’m doing what I can.

I had a short shift at work- something thats always a little bittersweet. I prefer working LONG hours and less days- just get it all out of the way. Back east a typical shift for me was anywhere between 10 and 16 hours.. so these silly little 6 hour shifts just make me feel like I’ve lost a day. At the same time, and I’m aware this sounds a little silly to most, I don’t HAVE to take a lunch when I work these- which I cherish. I typically don’t eat during the work day, and I just want to stay on the clock, so having to take a half hour out of my day to sit around and charge my phone always kinda rubs me the wrong way. But thats state law here, and I just have to deal with it.. no big deal at the end of the day.

So I finished up my quick shift, and began the long walk down the hill. It wasn’t pouring, by any means, but spending a few hours walking down a mountain in the steady light rain certainly gets you pretty damp. Therefore, I completed the six mile walk down from the lodge completely drenched per usual, and rather than going to the rest area to fill my water and take out the trash as I had planned.. I did the aforementioned routine of choosing comfort over responsibility. Wet clothes on the dash, comfy pajamas on, I climbed into bed just after sundown and didn’t get back up until 5 in the morning. It was entirely uneventful, but oh so pleasant.

I got a little behind on Actifit and my daily journaling in general; mainly because it took my hands a couple hours to regain dexterity. The expired hand warmers I have been carrying around since my time in Seattle didn’t have a ton of effect- not surprising. I’m actually relieved to even be using them- i wasnt sure if they were just going to end up in the trash or not. Anyways, my bus stop is coming up, so I am signing off for now and will be back after a skate and some box store heat-searching to catch up on things around here. Wish me luck, friends
