Hiking in the forest - My Actifit Report Card: December 22 2025

Lulu and I had a great time hiking through the Prescott National Forest along the narrow banks of Lynx Creek to an isolated and quiet spot for some prospecting (and enjoying nature at the same time).

The high altitude (around 6000 feet) meant cool conditions as we set out on our hike but it felt comfortable as we trekked along for almost 2 miles before arriving at an old gold mining area that had been worked over 100 years ago. Now huge piles of rocks that had been dropped from the dredging operations lined the bank 20 feet above the present creek - an indication of how much work was done to extract the gold from these hills.

We spent several hours by ourselves, I found some nice gold while Lulu rested in the sun.
The hike back was tougher as we had to climb several hundred feet back up to where the car was parked but the forest scenery was beautiful and it really had been a great day.
