Hiking on the mountain-My Actifit Report Card: February 6 2026

in Actifit13 hours ago

I was feeling refreshed today after spending a long day on the road yesterday on a rescue Husky transport after babysitting the little pup the night before.

I just wanted to spend a few hours up on the mountainside so Lulu and I drove up to the top of Mingus Mountain to hike around.
This area is somewhat famous (in geology circles) for some nice collections of Banded Iron Formation (or BIF) which was formed almost 2 billion years ago and is quite attractive.

Of course I wanted some mileage so we had a good 4 mile hike around the high hills (almost 7000 feet) and rugged road and trails.
The weather was beautiful as the sky was clear and the sun shining brightly and the snow was gone leaving the forest fresh and alive with even a few hardy little wild flowers poking up through the leaf litter.

The hiking was relaxed so the altitude wasn't a problem and the ground was dry enough to make the footing good.
The collecting was easy enough with specimens laying on the surface so we could simply hike along and grab a piece here and there without having to pause much.

After grilling up some burgers over a wood fire for Lulu we finished up the day with a late afternoon walk on the Jail Trail down in Old Cottonwood.
Plenty of people in town to give Lulu lots of attention and the trail was alive with song birds up in the big cottonwood trees. 2 easy miles and now time to relax and plan the weekend fun (probably prospecting on Lynx Creek on Sunday)
Hope everyone had a great day and Lulu says hello to all her friends 🧡.
