My Actifit Report Card: February 1 2026

Another beautiful day for a hike high up on Mingus Mountain this morning as most of the snow had melted and the ground was nicely drying out.

It's always a relaxed and slow drive up to the trailhead on the very scenic but twisting road from Jerome. Once there it was good to see the snow was (mostly) gone and the Forest Service was busy conducting a prescribed burn to clear out dead wood.

The sun was high and the temperature in the 50s as we headed out from the parking area towards the actual trail a bit over a half mile away. We were around 7000 feet higher but the gentle climb wasn't difficult and Lulu was having a great time exploring the area (and making friends with another pup).

Next it was onto the actual trail - a single track that wasn't too difficult to hike - that wound along the mountainside high above the Jerome highway below use. I had no problems with the altitude and the footing wasn't too rocky as the trail gradually climbed.

After about 2+ miles we hit the crest of the hike and it was time to turn around and head back down.
My legs felt good and Lulu was cruising along as the easy miles zipped by with a few stops along the way so that Lulu could have fun in the snow and cool off a bit.

A really enjoyable couple of hours exploring some new areas that I'm sure we'll visit again in the future.
