My Actifit Report Card: February 23 2026

After a day of hiking and digging at Lynx Creek I was hoping my back and legs would be up to some decent running and it ended up being a very productive day.
The bulk of my route was on the sprawling trail network in the scrubby hills overlooking the area.
My pace was slow and relaxed when I hit the Blowout Trail entrance after a short road section and run along under the oaks and juniper.
After a couple of miles I hit the more open, dry and rocky trails as the trails climbed up onto the low limestone hills. I trotted along at a leisurely 11 minute pace which is pretty anemic but my endurance is crap right now so the miles are more important than speed.

A couple of hikers passed by as I chugged along and everyone seemed to be enjoying the mild (70 degree) morning temperature and stark but pretty arid landscape.
I crested a few hundred feet above home and took in the surrounding beauty before the trail big zagged down along the hillside for a good half mile before leveling off to meet up with the main trailhead along Mingus Ave.

From there I cruised down the mile dirt downhill to finish up with 6 miles.
My afternoon hike with Lulu was along these same trails but now the temperature was in the upper 70s and sunny so I brought along a bowl and water for Lulu to have along the way.

So many smells for Lulu to check and more spots for a stop and middle. Lots of animal scat (I'm thinking it was coyote poop) and Lulu was quick to check each pile out.
It was a nice 2 mile loop around the hills then a long drink for both of us.
A fun hike with the wildflowers starting to add their colors to the dry landscape.
