My Actifit Report Card: May 2 2026

in Actifit11 days ago

I'm getting better as we are gradually settling into our SD spot and my running is on a slow but hopefully steady improvement.

The weather is cool early and quite mild compared to Cottonwood but although the landscape looks lush and green the state is suffering from an early drought in so the big lakes are down and Spearfish Creek is noticeably lower.

There's always plenty of people out early so we had nice company for our morning loop around the park and hatchery grounds. It didn't take long for Lulu to get back into a routine here in Spearfish but alas no critters for her to chase this morning.
My run took me out to the head of Spearfish Canyon before winding my way back along the mountain bike trails on a somewhat slower 5 mile route. My legs are OK but my weight needs to drop quite a bit to ease the stress on my back and knees. The pleasant weather helps a lot but the summer humid heat will be a challenge unless I exercise early in the day.
Lulu and I headed up high into the canyon for 3 miles on the Roughlock Trail which is a mellow and wide dirt path that is a popular route.

The trail was an easy gradual climb for a mile before leveling out near the falls where we rested for a bit before heading back down the trail.
