#MarketFriday - Canada Day in Malta!

What a day! A day of exploring the markets in Valletta Malta, celebrating Canada day from abroad, a personal best in daily steps and my first #marketfriday post in a year!

I must look like a tourist for all the shots I am taking around town. That’s okay because a white guy wandering around looking at everything makes me a tourist anyhow. I married into a Maltese family but you gotta call a spade a spade.

It amazes me how there are shops everywhere. Not only scattered in most places but in the strangest nooks in these huge, ancient stone buildings. Below forts, castles, rows of century old stone buildings and everywhere in between

Hundreds of cafes and restaurants along the waterfront, which is pretty much everywhere. It is an island (actually 3 of them) after all and there are bays and harbours everywhere.

Art, liquor, clothing, and everything you would like to buy in the most obscure little stone corners. Even more amazing to me is the concept that everything you see was imported. Nothing much gets made here except for an abundance of stone that makes up the buildings.

The store-lined city streets of the capital city of Valletta are iconic and bustling. The hills leading to the sea almost remind me of San Fran except ancient tighter, and so much more stone.

A Timoteo maze of ups and downs as we go on our shopping voyage. Our luggage was delayed in the connection misses and might arrive tomorrow. Perfect reason to treat ourselves to some new clothes in case it doesn’t. That is what travel insurance is for!

I could imagine living above these shops, or in this sun-drenched place at all, but there are signs of life everywhere. What would they think of our markets across the pond?

Almost 20,000 steps later and we are happy to be headed back to the ferry that will take us back to Cospicua. Somewhere among the lights across the bay I will be sipping a Cisk lager and the king in for the night to do it all again tomorrow.
