In today's mood, we are up to wishing our former president a happy 94th birthday as he continues to watch the creation he both did or initiated.

Having taken over the seat amidst mourning for the loss of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, the founding President, he was mainly tasked with overseeeing the growth of a people who still had fresh memories of the wounds acquired in the process of fight for indepence.

Nyayo, is a word associated withn his tenure which is a swahili word translated to footsteps. This meant that he was more determined in following the footpaths of his predecessor.
Among the best moments that he made Kenya create, was a thousand praise songs that were composed in his honor. In every visit he made be it in aschool, a church or any public gathering, different praise songs were composed and performed with the performers geting instant rewards from the people around him in various forms, mostly packets of milk hence Maziwa ya Nyayo (Moi's milk) which I later got the chance to take after it was introdced in primary schools as away of motivating many to attend and remain in school.

I was not that big to exactly get the songs stick in my mind but at least I can remember a couple of the same. Praising Baba wa Taifa was the main theme, and the other only theme was wishing him the ability to rule for life, till now maybe he rules but am not sure how.

Other songs were also sang purposely to criticise him as a result of what at sometime was seen as redirecting Kenya to poverty war and all sorts of effects brought along by bad leadership.

Some of the memorable events both good and bad associated with his governance are:

  1. Maziwa ya Nyayo, free milk program which personally pulled me much closer to classrooms.
  2. The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was build on a sum of several billions.
  3. Fight for a multiparty stae which saw some of his opposers brutally treated
  4. Fuel rationing countrywide which was not fully reliant on his government rather the state to state invasion around the globe.

Hope you did enjoy the read, keep an eye and get to love Kenya and it's people.
