The Unsung Treatment: My Experience as Clinical Dietitian

Greetings to my cherished community! I hope you are all well and healthy. Today, I want to share a glimpse into my role as a hospital Dietitian, a position that is both challenging and rewarding, yet often operates quietly behind the scenes to support patient recovery.

My day typically starts with ward rounds alongside doctors and other healthcare professionals. During these rounds, I assess patients’ nutritional needs, understand their medical conditions, and provide evidence-based dietary recommendations that play a key role in treatment decisions. It’s a collaborative effort where nutrition is recognized as a vital component of healing, rather than an afterthought.

Following the rounds, I conduct individual counseling sessions with patients and their families. I explain in clear and practical terms how their food choices can impact their health—whether it’s conditions like diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, malnutrition, or recovery after surgery. I create personalized meal plans aimed at facilitating healing, rebuilding strength, and ensuring long-term health. Documentation is also a crucial aspect of my job. I meticulously record care plans, updates, and nutritional interventions to guarantee continuity of care across shifts and among various healthcare providers, helping to maintain consistency and accuracy in treatment.

In addition to direct patient care, I teach students, imparting clinical knowledge and real-world experiences from the hospital to prepare them for their future careers. I also oversee meal preparation in the hospital kitchen, ensuring that hygiene, portion sizes, and nutritional standards are meticulously followed so patients receive safe and suitable meals.

After a fulfilling and busy workday, I stopped by Crispy Chicken Eatery to pick up some moimoi for dinner a simple yet satisfying conclusion to my day that helps me recharge. Each day reminds me that food is more than just sustenance; it serves as therapy, comfort, and a vital tool for healing.
