The Diary Game: GOING FOR A SCREENING EXERCISE AND GETTING A NEW PHONE FOR MY BIG DADDY – 6/1/2026

I bring you greetings from my family, still wishing you a happy new year with the best ahead of you in all you do. The highlights of my day included morning devotion, going for screening exercise at the University of Uyo, taking my big daddy to buy him a phone, attending choir rehearsals and playing bass guitar in church before returning home to enjoy AFCON matches, having my dinner and going to bed. Putting all of that together formed my diary game with moments of stress, patience and happiness in the end. Let's dive into the day in detail. MORNING It was a resounding and beautiful morning as my son was the first to wake up and started telling his mother, “I want to eat.” This rarely happens. I think he didn't eat much the night before. We had to persuade him until after our morning devotion. We prayed using the family altar devotional guide of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, “Day 6”, with the topic “The Narrow or Broad Gate – What is your choice?”. It was a short moment of reflection that it is not everything we should do; rather, we should trust in God and do the right thing.
The Presbyterian Devotional Guide 2026 As the devotion ended at about 6:15am, I unlocked my phone to see missed calls from my colleague; we applied for further studies together, the same department but different courses. I rang him back, and he reminded me that we are to go for screening today. I quickly rushed to the bathroom and began to do anything possible. I checked my files, selecting the needed documents for the screening exercise. We agreed to go by 10am. We went, and first of all, went to the office to confirm that our transcript had been sent to the postgraduate school. One of my colleagues was found without me. I was very disturbed but remained composed, but I paid for the transcript, and I had done the necessary requirements. Immediately I called the registrar of my school, and he assured me my transcript was submitted and that I should not worry. He even called the office, and they began to search different files; to the glory of God, it was found, and I was asked to go for the screening.
Pictorial Excerpts at the University of Uyo AFTERNOON For the screening the person in charge was not on the seat; we had to wait from that morning until 1:34pm when he came to work. There was another serious delay because other departments were waiting in their numbers too. By this time hunger and tests have taken time to deal with me, with my phone battery on the verge of switching off, but I found a socket that was free, and I powered my phone while waiting for other departments who were called in first before mine. I almost slept in the process of tiredness. Finally we were screened, and we left the school at exactly 3:58pm with our faces partly smiling and squeezing for hunger.
I went to pick my big daddy EVENING I needed hours to rest, but on remembering that I promised my big daddy to get a phone in this new year, which I had promised him to see on Monday, but my engagements didn't permit me to see him, I was like, 'I can't give him further excuses.' I sprang up from the bed and called him to prepare for me coming to his house, where I met him at about 5:07pm. From Barracks Road, I took him through Paul Bassey Street, leading us to the busy Oron Road, Uyo, where electronics are sold. We entered one of the electronic shops, and I told him to make his choice, but he said, “No, give me the one you want.” We defended ourselves with “yes” and “no”. I checked for Samsung A07, but there was no charger in the package. I asked him the main thing he will use the phone for; it was basically calls and WhatsApp. One of the salesgirls advised I should get him a Techno Pro 10, which will serve his purposes with durability in battery and efficiency. The girl was able to show her professional skills in marketing; I decided to buy the technophone for him.
Photo news at the phone Shop At the paypoint, they were confused about the new price, as is the case in Nigeria. You may see the same thing in the morning with a different price in the evening. After we paid them, one of them found out that we overpaid; they had to make a refund, which we used the money to purchase a screen guard for the phone. Everything was done, and we left. I followed him back to the churchyard to configure the phone for him. I opened email (Google) for him, downloaded and registered him on WhatsApp, and ensured he was added to church platforms; that took us to about 7pm.
Joining Choir Rehearsals While I was going home, the choristers were having choir rehearsals, and I had to join them on noticing there was no bassist to play for them and give the rhythm for the reggae music they were rehearsing. I play for them as well and have enjoyed myself as an instrumentalist.
AFCON Matches I got home at 7:43pm to watch AFCON matches, with Algeria beating DR Congo at 119 minutes to progress into the quarter-final of the tournament before Ivory Coast played against Burkina Faso, with Ivory Coast winning to keep defending the AFCON title. While I was enjoying the match, a table was set before me, my wife telling me to suspend and eat. I sluggishly obeyed but ate and watched. It was nice, and I had my bath after dinner, and I slept.
