It's been a few days since I returned from my assignment. I've been feeling unwell, even while I was still there. I've been feeling feverish after my friend also got sick and had a fever. I'm probably overly tired from the long journey, making me susceptible to illness.

Register yourself before voting

When I got home, I felt like lying down all the way, but the bus was full of passengers. When I got to my village, I had to sit in a cafe for a while because my husband came to pick me up with his friend in the car. As a result, I also had to sit down, even if only for a while.

The next day I was even more feverish and didn't leave the house at all, even so, seeing the dirty clothes that had piled up like a mountain, I finally washed my clothes too, this time the water in the well was also very limited because it was the dry season (pengerein) as the Acehnese say.

Three candidates for village head

Usually on Sunday we would have returned to our work place, but because I was not feeling well and there was also a village head election in the village, I finally asked for permission not to go to the office on Monday, but it was already Tuesday, my condition was still unstable, I still had a headache and now I was even nauseous like I was pregnant, even though I wasn't pregnant at all.

A sign that you have chosen

This time, there were three people in the village head election, including my husband, but unfortunately we lost because we did not give bribes to the community. However, this time we were not disappointed at all because we had done something that meant we did not lose anything and were not guilty of cheating from the start.

From the beginning, I had forbidden my husband from running as a candidate for village head, but he was constantly pushed by his parents and siblings. Since I had also passed the PPPK, I gave in because I didn't want to hinder his career, especially since his parents insisted on my husband running.

Selling household goods

On election day, we all came to vote, and in the evening, the opposing team distributed money to the public. It was natural that he won, and the other candidate also distributed money, but unfortunately, the difference was only 16 votes, but it was enough to disappoint him.

We didn't mind not winning and were still able to laugh happily at the end of the event, but another opponent who lost went straight home and didn't want to join the winning team. He also sacrificed a lot for the community, but his team was actually bad when campaigning so that his supporters ran to another candidate.

Taking attendance in the morning

It turns out that the charm of money blinds everyone and without thinking about sin, all the money that is offered is snatched away and in the end the number of votes does not match the amount of money that has been spent, I can only shake my head remembering everything that happened today.

How could it not be, during the religious studies on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, the ustadz explained that taking bribes is haram, voting is haram, not voting is also haram, even though there are some who have gone on the Hajj but when it comes to money like this, they ask for it, otherwise they will not vote for that person.

It's truly a shame that people don't stand firm on the truth. If they didn't know, maybe that was the case before, but after we go to Koranic study and the ustadz explains it, they still do such ridiculous things. It's truly shameful. Votes can be bought in any election now. 🤦
