The Diary Game: 12.05.26 How I Cooked Beans and Plantain on a Rainy Day. (Normal Day)
Hello everyone
Today was really a beautiful and happy day for me
I’ll be sharing how my day went, from the cooking moments to the little experiences that made the day special.
Stay tuned #thediarygame
Today was truly a beautiful and happy day for me. There’s something special about preparing your favorite meal by yourself, especially when it comes straight from the heart and from home. Beans and plantain has always been one of my best meals, and today’s experience made me appreciate it even more.
The day started with me selecting the beans carefully, removing the bad ones and making sure everything was neat and ready for cooking. While doing that, I remembered that my dad had already gone to the farm earlier to cut down fresh plantain. That alone made the meal feel more natural and homemade. Nothing beats fresh food straight from the farm.
After arranging the beans, I went ahead to set up my sawdust fire. The smell of the sawdust and the little smoke rising into the air already gave the environment that local kitchen feeling. I arranged the pot properly and prepared everything I would need for the cooking process.
The beans I cooked was about four cups, so I measured the water carefully because of the type of beans I was using. I added about two and a half cups of water so it would cook perfectly without getting too watery.
After that, I lit the sawdust fire and placed the pot of beans on it.
Not long after, heavy rain started falling. The weather became cold and calm, but instead of letting it spoil the moment, it actually made the cooking experience sweeter. The sound of the rain mixed with the crackling firewood created a peaceful atmosphere. To make the moment even more lively,
I turned on my MP3 player and allowed the music to blast loudly around me. The music kept me in a good mood and gave me smooth vibes while cooking.
As the beans boiled gradually, I arranged all the ingredients beside me — Maggi, pepper, palm oil, onions, and salt. Everything was set and ready.
All the ingredients and their prices in steemit currency and naira are:
| Item | Price in Naira (₦) | Price in STEEM |
|---|---|---|
| Maggi | ₦300 | 3.51 STEEM |
| 4 Cups of Beans | ₦1,500 | 17.54 STEEM |
| 1 Bottle of Oil | ₦2,000 | 23.39 STEEM |
| 3 Onions | ₦450 | 5.26 STEEM |
| 1 Packet of Salt | ₦350 | 4.09 STEEM |
| Total | ₦4,600 | 53.79 STEEM |
1 STEEM = ₦85.53
Then suddenly, I remembered that my mum doesn’t really like too much pepper in food. I smiled to myself and reduced the quantity of pepper a little so everyone could enjoy the meal comfortably.
When the beans finally became soft, I added all the ingredients into the pot. Immediately the aroma changed completely.
The scent of beans mixed with onions, oil, and seasoning filled the air beautifully. At that moment, hunger started increasing seriously.
While waiting for the beans to finish properly, I quickly started peeling the plantains. Since they were freshly harvested from the farm, the plantains looked very fresh and healthy. I peeled them carefully and washed them clean, preparing them to go on the fire immediately after the beans was done.
Soon enough, the beans became ready. The texture was soft, rich, and looking very delicious.
Without wasting time, I placed the plantain on the fire to boil. The rain was still falling gently outside while the fire kept burning steadily beneath the pot. The whole moment felt peaceful, local, and unforgettable.
After waiting for some minutes, the plantain became soft and ready too. I brought it down from the fire and turned away the hot water carefully. At that point, everything was complete.
The food was finally ready to be served.
I shared the food, and seeing the plates well served brought another level of joy to me. There’s always happiness in preparing good food and sharing it with family. The combination of hot beans and soft plantain looked so inviting and satisfying.
Finally, after all the stress, smoke, rain, music, and cooking, it was time for the best part eating.
At that moment, I felt peace, happiness, and satisfaction deep inside me.
Atleast I'm happy I'm finally serving you guys and I'm eating it too.
Sometimes, the simplest moments in life create the best memories. Cooking my favorite meal under the rain with music playing in the background turned out to be one of the happiest parts of my day.
