Farm Fest - Part 1: Chickens And Goats!
Sup
Farm Fest was a great opportunity to visit a couple of my local farms. It's always a good idea to know where your food comes from. Today I'll be sharing some of the chickens and goats that I met at our last stop. This farm was huge and had many animals including horses, cows, and goats. Famished upon arrival, our first stop was to the barbecue pit where we had a selection of local, farm-fresh foods to choose from. Much of it was raised on this very farm, like the brisket I ordered. For my sides, I ordered salt potatoes (which were dripping with melted butter) and barbecue beans. Delicious.
As if that wasn't good enough, they also brew eight different beers in their brewery. 🍻 Let's meet some of the animals.
Until I saw them in person, I never realized how much feather coverage chickens have. These chickens had an interesting feather pattern around their heads. It was actually quite beautiful. I believe this breed of chicken is called Ameraucana
I don't know if they are raising these chickens for eggs or meat; but, this particular breed lays blue eggs. I've never eaten a blue egg. Have you? Nutritionally, they are no different than any other egg. But, what about the taste? Sadly, I was stopped by security before I could enter the coop. So I'll never know.
There was even a lone turkey.
We stopped to see the goats on our way to the barbecue pit. They were quit popular and seemed to enjoy every bit of the attention. Two immediately walked up to me as I approached the fence and wanted me to pet them or feed them. Or both.
The veins are visible on it's ear, showing what a warm day it was. Goats are very easy going and they always appear to be grinning. After eating we got to meet some horses but I didn't get any video. Standing next to a horse is an awesome experience. You truly see how majestic they are when you do.
Tomorrow I'll be sharing our visit to a farm that has yaks and alpacas!

Nope, I have never eaten a blue egg, nor have I ever seen a chicken with pink on it. The goats are so cute and so is the little girl. I am salivating now, thanks to you and I wish we had a Farm Fest here. Amazing photos Omra! : )
